Jalandhar: Under positive artistic environment facilitating free flow of imagination; Lovely Professional University organized Week- Long Theatrical Performances to celebrate World Theatre Day. On one hand, the School of Computer Applications organized 2nd Inter School English Play competition for its initiations “Fight-Eng (English) Fear”; and, on other, Department of Performing Arts organized “Itihas Chakra”, under the theme- how common man has been continuously fighting against corruption and how the politicians just for the sake of votes keeping on exploiting the common-men. In addition, the Department of Cultural Affairs came out with Rangmanch with mesmerizing Choreography, Skit, Short Play, Mime, Drama and Navrasa Dance to add special luster to the organization. In fact, each and every performance carried a message to the society for its goodness and betterment. 

On this organization, the Pro-Chancellor of the University, Ms. Rashmi Mittal said: "This special endeavour of theatrical performances, from different Departments of the University, is to preserve, promote and disseminate all forms of art and culture, particularly, theatrical doings among the talented students under the guidance of mentors. The titles of plays enacted by the students from the school of Computer Applications  remained -My Will,  The True Beauty,  Death of the Soul,  Love, Mercy and Revenge,  Domestic Violence & Male Dominating Society, Politics over Martyr,  Social Evils: Prevailing in Indian Society,  Education is her right & Corporate Media: Beware etc. Typical of the human mentality, the plays were basically with truly universal techniques revealing happy unison of ideas and style. Apart from performances, these had been superb on different aspects of dramatics also.

On contacting, a participating student Shwetima, she said: “I and other students like me want to mobilize communities and bridge the divides. In this regard, we all feel that theatre will always be powerful for goodness of the society.” In fact, ‘Theatre’ subtly permeates the human soul and it is a proven means of advocating and advancing ideas that all human folk collectively hold.

Jalandhar: Under due consideration towards the health and fitness of LPU Hostellers, the Division of Residential Services of Lovely Professional University arranged today a  Mega-Run of 5 Kms, from the Basket Ball Ground to finish at BH-I, covering Maheru Road, Village Hardasspur, Sports Stadium & Entire Campus Area. More than 5000 Men-Hostellers and members of the Security and Hostel Staff ran the destined run for the cause of health awareness. LPU Chancellor Mr. Ashok Mittal flagged off the run. He was accompanied by Pro-Chancellor Ms. Rashmi Mittal & Chief Security Officer. 

Massive arrangements for Route Direction, Medical and Security needs were maintained with coloured flag markings, ready ambulances, running commentary messages on radio sets etc. Different blocks observed colour code of identity by wearing distinguishing colour bands. Over-All Trophy has been won by Boys Hostel-5 C by gaining 8 points; whereas, 53 other prizes were distributed to participating students and members of Hostel Staff.
Congratulating all the participants to the run and the organisers, the Chancellor Mr. Ashok Mittal encouraged them for more such healthy organizations for common causes of consciousness and social awakening: 

“Such unified runs with motto lead us to reach the target. As such, we are planning to have more ‘Runs’ in future too to keep on awakening the students. On these lines, soon a run for Girls-Hostellers will also be arranged.” He added: “Initially we had devised that each hostel block will field a team of only 175 participants; however, the enthusiastic students scored the massive participation.”

Student Winners of the Run remained Krishna (BH5 A), Sachin Sharma (BH5 B), Imran Khan (BH3 B) as first, second and third respectively. In addition, 47 other first ranked students were also honoured with prizes.  On his success, Krishna said: “I used to get late in the morning, but this participation has motivated me and students like me to keep on participating in such result oriented events to achieve much. Jalandhar: Beginning with colourful bangs on 23 February AIU’s All India Inter University Boxing Championship hosted by Lovely Professional University saw 14 days’ Massive Affair to its conclusion, under all “joie de vivre”, today. Mahrishi  Dayanand University (MDU) Rohtak hauled up the Over-All  Boxing Championship Trophy for Men; Whereas, Guru Nanak Dev University declared runner-up amid melodious send-off to more than 1100 participants, Team Managers, Coaches and Technical Experts from 28 States of India by Specially invited Police Band and with special honours. The chief Guest of the day was Mr Ashok Mittal, Chancellor of LPU. AIU’s Deputy Secretary Sports Dr Gurdeep Singh was the Guest of honour. On this occasion, galaxy of sports persons of 101 universities from all over India witnessed the closing ceremony where 11 Gold, 11 Silver and 22 Bronze Medals, one Best Boxer and one the most promising Boxer Awards were awarded to the deserving boxers. Prior to this 13 gold, 13 silver, 26 Bronze Medals were given to women Boxers during women Boxing Championship, which was also lifted by MDU Rohtak. On this occasion, Chairman of Lovely Group Sh Ramesh Mittal, Vice Chairman Sh Naresh Mittal, Pro chancellor of LPU Ms Rashmi Mittal, Vice Chancellor Dr Rameshwar Kanwar, Director General Er HR Singla and others were prominently present.

On the behalf of AIU, Greeting all on the farewell ceremony, the honoured Guest Dr Gurdeep Singh had astonishing praise for the organizing skills of LPU for a mammoth championship: “This is the first championship, which I have ever seen so far, as fully professionally conducted. For this credit goes to entire team working under the stewardship of young visionary Chancellor Ashok Mittal of LPU, where youth is being regularly channelized in constructive direction in the fields of Academics as well as Sports.”  Further elaborating his view he referred to Sanskrit Shlokas and Swami Vivekanand. Addressing the present ones, Chancellor Ashok Mittal said in utter humbleness: “We tried our level’s best to be up to AIU’s expectation.” Continuing with determination, he held: “This organization has further strengthened us to host more mammoth organizations for the growth of the students.” He also congratulated all the participants for their courage, obedience, patience and allied characters through which they proved their commitment to sports. Motivating the LPU team, he said: “Keep such a spirit ever up!” 


During this MDU Rohtak gained 6 medals-2 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze with 46 points; GNDU, Amritsar also 6 Medals-2gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze with 38 points; University of Delhi 2 Gold Medals with 30 Points; and, Panjab University Chandigarh remained at fourth position with 1 silver and 5 bronze also having 30 points. All the bouts were very interesting and each and every boxer equally got applauds for their techniques and tricks irrespective of their state or university. The fourteen days saw the perfect sportsman spirit among spectators too.

Seeing the Infrastructure and technology usage at the university and on interacting with the students, Honourable Lord Rana felt immensely happy on pulsing the fast changes in education scenario: "The total international standards which are being provided to the students in Punjab needs special  approvals and commendations. Prior to here all such developments could only be envisaged in the southern belt of India. I am very happy that such great educational Institutions have altered the situation and made Punjab feel proud of having the largest University of India on its sacred land for the benefit of many thousands of  Indian as well as foreign students."

Jalandhar: The second phase of Association of Indian Universities’ All India Inter University Boxing championship (MEN) was inaugurated today at Lovely Professional University under feats of magnanimous celebrations. Starting from today, the next Eight Days will be for the best of Men Boxing Talent under its 58th annual Organization for the championship, for which AIU has forwarded the hosting command to LPU. During the inauguration ceremony, AIU’s national Cultural Fest Gold Winner Folk Orchestra of LPU entertained all with melodies and ‘Sangam’ of Bihu, Dandia, Gondhal, Garba, Ponoung Dances revealed harmonious existence in India under unity in diversity. On this occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University Chandigarh, Prof. Dr Ranbir Chander Sobti, well- known for his myriad of achievements, was the Chief Guest of the day.

Having all praise for Professional skills and highlighting organizing acumen of LPU gathered in a very short span, VC Prof. RC Sobti said: “The organization of such a mega event in all efficiency is self relevance about the real professional attitude of LPU.” Also, while declaring the championship open, he motivated the hundreds of boxers from 28 Indian states: “I wish all of you may come out with great success in your efforts! Also, imbibe the culture of Punjab by enjoying its splendid food and historic and religious places at holy city Amritsar, as many of you have come from very far off states.” Accompanying him, Chancellor of LPU Mr. Ashok Mittal, Pro Chancellor Ms. Rashmi Mittal, Vice Chancellor Dr. Rameshwar Kanwar, and Director General Er. HR Singla were prominently present.

Addressing, Chancellor Mr. Ashok Mittal Said: “Our University wants that the talents of the students be best utilized. These should not go wasted at any cost. That is why, LPU provides an opportunity for sportsmen to study and excel in sports through its scholarship policy with offers of free hostels, food, waiver in tuition fee and other such incentives.”

The Men championship will be for 560 league matches, 22 semifinals and 11 finals. During this organization, about 400 top team managers, coaches and other officials are thronging the LPU Campus, to assist their respective teams, from 28 states of the country.  In this, men boxers will grab 11 gold, 11 silver, 22 bronze medals and 1 best boxer award.
