Jalandhar: Providing a common platform to hundreds of foreign students from 26 countries to represent heritage of their respective country, LPU has inaugurated two-day annual International Fest celebrations “ONE WORLD” at open air theatre of the campus. The theme being celebrated this year is "Global Heritage" under which foreign students initiated the event through one kilo-meter long procession. Showcasing and upholding cultural inheritance of their respective country, international students kept on dancing, singing and yelling all the way wearing typical dresses, ornaments and other attributes. Maintaining global unity, Indian students co-operated with International ones in celebrative actions. Students also showcased their talents with respect to their respective country’s myths, folk-lore, tribal-tales, urban development, music, literature, chivalry and other achievements. Thousands of on-looking students witnessed and celebrated the spirit of ‘One World’.  On this eve, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal unveiled the symbolic clay model of the Globe which revealed oneness of the world.

Congratulating all the organizing and participating students, Chancellor Mr Mittal expressed: “We encourage foreign students to organise this annual event where they showcase and share their cultures with the Indian students. This helps promotion and imbibing of the cultural heritage of other countries to further uphold and celebrate ‘unity in diversity’.” Continuing he said: “University always wants to remain a global player under the biggest aim of upholding its vast cultural diversity among students, so that they imbibe global understanding. As such, students must strengthen the common string that keeps binding all in one-ness. On these lines, we are striving to propagate education in such a way that students prove themselves as truly globally fit citizens.”

Participating 26 countries included students from Afghanistan, Iran, USA, Rwanda, Bhutan, Indonesia,  Bangladesh, Burundi, DR Congo, Nepal, Nigeria, Tanzania, Tibet, Thailand, Kenya, Sudan, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Cameroon, Maldives, Uganda, Zambia and more. After making multi-coloured performances, students reassembled near Uni-Mall for depicting and sharing their heritage through specially raised separate stalls. This exhibition will continue till tomorrow under various elaborative displays about religious, cultural, social heritage etc.

On this celebration, Putcha Koetnoi a student from Thailand said: “We are very happy to represent our country. We saw that other students enjoyed dances and songs of our culture with a feeling of one-ness. This celebration has definitely made us more practical with an elaborated insight into how world can be one leaving aside all self interests.”  Reshma Bahri from Iran and Bolorchimeg Gantumur from Mongolia  hold: “We understand that the unity of the human species lies in its diversity and we are happy to note that this great celebration is designed to enable students with distinctive cultural expressions work closely together.”
