* 25 members to pedal from Srinagar to New Delhi to cover 1100 Kms
*Carrying theme of Safety, Security and Women Empowerment, the 17- day rally will conclude on 25th November
*Team halted at LPU for three days, and participated in Women empowerment lecture series and Nukkad Natak
Jalandhar: Shouldering social responsibility of empowering women and to demand safety for all Indian citizens irrespective of gender, LPU welcomed ‘Building India Safe for Women’ Cycle Rally 2013 at its campus. Organized by National Service Scheme, the rally from Srinagar to New Delhi is to cover 1100 Kms, and conclude on 25th November. Carrying forward theme of Safety, Security and Women Empowerment; a group of 37 participants of the rally from Jamia Millia Islamia University (New Delhi) was accorded warm welcome at LPU Campus by NSS Volunteers and officials of the university. In the background of women empowerment, different cultural performances, Nukkad Natak, lecture series and other activities were held in the honour of the volunteering student-group by the Division of Student Affairs of LPU. After making a three day stay at the campus, the rally was flagged off on its further journey.
The 17- day rally is passing through the states of J&K, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and UT Chandigarh. Prestigious co-supporters are Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt of India, State Govts of Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi, Punjab & Haryana, Directorate of Youth services Punjab and many universities of repute. Being organized in collaboration with University of Kashmir, the inspiring source is His Excellency Najeeb Jung, Hon’ble Lt Governor, Delhi.
In his message to the students, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal encouraged all students to keep on volunteering for such social causes to bring awareness and awakening among others. Mr Mittal said: “We all need to be in the forefront to carry forward social messages concerning common men and women in particular and society in general. I accord my best wishes to the NSS volunteers of Jamia Millia Islamia University who have kindled a great flame of social responsibility among youth of the country.”
