Jalandhar: The whole of the year 2013 remained splendid and hectic for Lovely Professional university with marvelous achievements throughout. The year witnessed visits of towering leaders of different fields to LPU Campus from world across including two Presidents of two great nations on a single day. The year was also for LPU to get varied accolades world- wide for its glorious academic, research, placements, sports, cultural, entertainment pursuits and top ranks and awards. Optimistic LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal wants now to devote the whole of next year 2014 to research and development (R&D) works to get India included in the top 200 universities of the world. In fact, in 2013 research initiatives of LPU got a major boost as five of its projects in different advanced research areas have been granted funding of Rs 88.4 lakh by high-status government agencies-DRDO, DST & CSIR.
In May, the 3rd Convocation of LPU was historic event which was graced by Hon’ble President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee and the President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mr Hamid Karzai. His Excellency Mr Karzai also received LPU’s Honoris Causa D Litt Degree. President Mukherjee praised LPU by saying: “Visiting LPU is an exciting experience for me. LPU is doing commendable work in the field of education. I wish all the best for its future endeavours.
Other foreign dignitaries and delegations which visited LPU included Minister Commercial of Canada Ms Sara Wilshaw, Vice President of Beijing Union University of China Professor Bao Hong and Vice Minister Dr Liu Limin from Ministry of Education China. Delegation of 21 members from USA representing Iowa State University (ISU), University of Iowa (UI) and University of Northern Iowa (UNI); delegations from Coventry University UK; and, Purdue University Indiana of USA also made important visits.
In the entertainment fields, top actors of Indian Cinema Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Deepika Padukone; Coke Studio @MTV; Indian Ocean Band; Tabla-maestro Ustad Fazal Qureshi and others entertained LPU Students. Talented students themselves lifted overall literary trophy at National cultural Fest of Association of Indian Universities, won second prize at world’s famous Shree Baba Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan and grabbed Rs 1.20 lac scholarship from Ministry of Culture India. LPU also organized AIU’s many zonal and inter-zonal championships for Kho-Kho, Chess, Softball and Basketball where LPU students revealed their sports skills of applaud.
For coveted ranks and awards, Punjab Chief Minister S Parkash Singh Badal has honoured Chancellor Mr Mittal with Entrepreneur of the Year Award; and, Education Minister Punjab honoured LPU with Shiksha Ratna Award for best IT practices. LPU is ranked as top private university in overall ranking by ICT magazine ‘Digital Learning’; ‘Business Today’ has ranked LPU MBA Programme ahead of IIMs Indore and Shillong, and IIT New Delhi in “Future Orientation” category; NASSCOM awarded LPU for “Best IT Innovation in Higher Education”; Architecture students have won overall trophy at North Zone NASA-2013 held in Jaipur; and, one of the Top Fortune 50 companies, Siemens honoured 118 Mechanical Engineering students.
More than 140 global and Indian super brands recruited thousands of LPU Students during Campus Placement Drives in 2013. LPU proved itself as top recruitment spot for Cognizant, Royal Bank of Scotland, HCL, Google, Microsoft, Indian Armed Forces, Federal Bank, Asian Paints, Pepsi Co and many other companies. The salary packages offered range up to Rs 8.5 lakh per annum. ICICI Bank selected 234 students, HCL Technologies 109 and Royal Bank of Scotland 90 students of the university.
