LPU Campus echoed with Patriotism on 65th Republic Day

  • NSS Volunteers, Security men-women & staff members made massive participations to celebrate the national day


LPU organised 65th Republic Day celebrations with a magnificent parade and varied colourful cultural presentations of patriotic fervour at its campus.  Division of Security & Safety (having on rolls ex-members from all the three wings of Indian Forces), NSS volunteers and LYC students (Lovely Youth Capital) had devised two –day mesmerising program. LPU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ramesh Kanwar hoisted the national flag and inspected the massive parade on the campus. Present on the occasion were many thousand national and international students who participated in and witnessed the programs for the great Indian Constitution and Republic Day. The students brought the day alive with their passion and love for the motherland. 
 The highlight of the pre-day celebration was the enchanting tuneful playing of India’s national anthem by All International Students’ Band of LPU. Specially choreographed patriotic songs, poems, dances, fashion show presented during two cultural programs “Ek Sham, Desh Ke Naam” and “Gantantra ke Rang, Zhankaar ke sang” marked the importance of this great national day. Presentations filled a thrill in the on-looking crowd of students and staff members which took pride in glorifying the spirit of national unity. The whole of the campus reverberated with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm.


LPU Sportswomen won All India Inter University Softball (W)ChampionshipTrophy

· Each of the team members was honoured with gold-medal at the host University in Andhra Pradesh
· Exhibited finest softball skills for knockout- rounds and league matches
· 48 Indian Universities participated to compete



Jalandhar: LPU sportswomen have won All India Inter University Softball (W) Championship by defeating strong contenders in league matches- Punjab University Chandigarh (10 – 01), GNDU Amritsar (03 – 01) & Delhi University (04 – 01). As such, LPU topped the league with 3 wins and 15 points to be on the first position. Prior to these matches LPU players also exhibited finest softball skills for knockout- rounds and gathered applaud from spectators. In knockout matches, LPU team won over Osmania University Hyderabad by 7-0, RGPV Bhopal by 10-0, University of Calicut by 8-0 and Solapur University by 4-0.  The championship was held at host Acharya Nagarjuna University Guntur (Andhra Pradesh), where 46 universities from all across India participated to grab the coveted trophy.  Each of the LPU team members was also honoured with gold Medal of the tournament.
Congratulating the winner team, LPU Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal said: “We are happy that students, this time women players, have once again brought top title for themselves and their university. It is more applauding that many of them belong to tough engineering/ management programs rather than physical education only. We further motivate all the team-members to keep up winning spirit for future participations as well.”
After exciting opening round of games, the tempo to grab the top prize was worth analyzing to assess the agility of LPU women players. Only due to this unique quality, LPU women led the way in a ‘battle’ for the national title. Despite the form and credentials of both the LPU and PUC teams, the final league match of the championship turned out lop-sided in place of being a hot contest. LPU players positioned for proven playing skills and did not allow the opponents to score even a single.

The agile LPU team was comprised of 14 members: Khushpreet (Captain), Aarti (Pitcher), Rekha (Catcher), Madhvi (Short Stop), Monika (First Base), Amandeep & Diksha (Second Base), Amandeep-II & Neetu (Center Out), Veerpal (Third Base), Jagdish & Avneet (Right Out), Jaganjeet & Neelima (Left Out). 

Bollywood star Abhay Deol & former Miss Great Britain visited LPU

Jalandhar: Versatile bollywood star & producer Abhay Deol & former Miss Great Britain Preeti Desai (2006-07) visited LPU today. Both of them enthralled LPU students and members of staff with their mesmerizing performances and great messages.  Being themselves students of foreign universities in Fine Arts and Fashion, this lively pair of versatile talents also interacted with the students of Journalism & Film Production, Fine Arts & Fashion Technology. Having appreciation for the vastness in every aspect of the university, the visiting stars congratulated students to be enrolled at the university to make their brilliant career ahead. Worth adding, Abhay studied Fine Arts from Los Angeles (USA) and Preeti completed her studies in UK. Seeing the LPU campus Abhay Deol said: “Had we been in our teens, we would have love to join LPU”
Entering the film industry Abhay got great recognition from films like Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!; Dev D ; Raanjhanaa; Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara; whereas Preeti gathered acclamations from her acting debut film ‘Shor in the City’. Abhay himself is a fan of "cinema that has the 'real' element" like ‘Mother India’ as he understands how to play complex characters.  Abhay told that he had four professions in mind: ‘acting, painting, philosophy and journalism’. He chose acting as it was his passion from school days, and not because of his famous uncle-veteran actor Dharmendra and his Deol cousins. He is now set to co-produce a thriller along with Colin Burrow's UK-based Special Treats Productions. Whereas, in addition to being former Miss Great Britain, Preeti is British Indian film actress and Indian super model. As a British Indian, she has made history by becoming the first woman of Indian origin to ever win the Miss Great Britain title.

Welcoming the duo stars to the university campus, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said that the students should follow the dictates from hard earned reputation of the visiting stars as they made their way to success themselves. Motivating university students particularly of film production department, Mr Mittal said: “It is great opportunity for you that actors of such a status have come to our campus to accord exposure to you about film industry. You should learn from their struggles and successes so that you too may be on great lines in bollywood industry in different fields of stardom, production, edition etc.”

Punjab Government opened Tourist Information Center (TIC) at LPU



  • Move to promote Tourism in Punjab
  • Extending manifold advantages to students & tourists alike
Jalandhar: Punjab Government has opened its Tourist Information Center (TIC) at Lovely Professional University. Since its opening, TIC is extending manifold advantages, information and co-operation to students & tourists alike.  Other than Chandigarh, Amritsar, Patiala and other cities, Jalandhar is the tenth city in the state to have such an informative center.  LPU has provided a space for TIC office at its main entrance on GT Road (Jalandhar- New Delhi Highway NH-1) which is an easily accessible place for everybody. This office is being run by TIC officers deputed by Punjab Govt., and it is being assisted by LPU students. TIC officers are providing training to LPU students of MBA Tourism & B Sc Airlines, Hotel Management & Tourism about tourism awareness who will guide the visitors later on.
In addition, local residents, frequently visiting non-resident Indians (NRIs), parents & other visitors are guided by TIC officers and trained students about tourism attractions in the state.  As LPU has many thousand students from 28 states of India and 26 countries, these students are also getting continuous help to visit different places of importance during week-ends and holidays. They are told about horticulture, monuments, religious-historical places, etc. Visitors are told about archaeological sites, heritage, craft, performing arts, tradition, customs, festivals & great culture of Punjab.  TIC also helps in arranging the guides, hotels, transport-tickets for different spots, detailed brochures and in other related needs to the tourists.
LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal has great words of praise for the Punjab Government for opening this unique center at LPU which is especially a boon for Jalandhar residents, NRIs, people crossing to other states from Jalandhar and students of distant states. Mr Mittal said: “Punjab is a great tourist destination with rich customs and culture. Its stories of religious, chivalrous and other achievements are of great worth to be told to others who are ignorant about this.  The Punjab Heritage & Tourism Promotion Board is making massive efforts for promotion about tourism, crafts, culture and skills related to Punjab. I feel, we all should contribute our bit to spread “Punjabiyat”, its values and valour among all to bring brotherhood and mirth of Punjab among all to bring peace in this world.”  

Canada’s University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) and Lovely Professional University (LPU) enter Academic Collaboration

· Two LPU students to go to UFV for exchange program at Indian Fee- structure.



Jalandhar: Canada’s University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) and Lovely Professional University (LPU) have entered academic collaboration. The collaboration between two universities, UFV & LPU, will focus on different areas of common interest. These areas include organisation of conferences, seminars, faculty & students visits/exchange programs, exploration of common research interests, co-operative projects etc.  The representatives from Canadian university led by Mr R Philips, Head of International Marketing (Asia, Middle East, Africa, Europe), met LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal. The visitors held mutual discussions on common interests for further academic strengthening of both the universities.
Elaborating about the collaboration, Chancellor Mr Mittal said: “In the first phase of this collaboration both LPU and UFV will work together on different programs.  Under this two LPU students of Business programme can study one year at UFV by paying normal Indian fees.” Mr Mittal further informed: “In next phase, this collaboration would work in research programs of agriculture, animation and computer sciences.”
Feeling excited about this tie-up, Mr Philips said: “Although we are already working with universities of Mumbai and Delhi, yet I feel that working with LPU in Punjab will certainly enable us to work closely with Indian Universities. We indeed anticipate a fast pace journey with LPU.”
UFV is a Canadian public university with campuses in (Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission and Hope) British Columbia.  Founded in 1974 for expanded vocational training, it has grown rapidly as one of the largest university in Canada.  UFV already has students from many ethnic, religious and national backgrounds, and has developed an emphasis in Indian and South Asian studies.      

CT public school lifted Overall Trophy of LPU T-20 Invitational School Cricket Tournament 2014




Jalandhar: Final matches for LPU T-20 Invitational School Cricket Tournament 2014 were played today at Sports Stadium of host Lovely Professional University. CT public school Jalandhar lifted Overall Trophy, whereas MCA, Mohali remained 1st runners up and Guru Harkishan public school Hoshiarpur 2nd runners up. Jasbir Singh from CT public school was declared ‘Man of the Series’; whereas, Chirag, Akshit & Ashish stood man of the final and two semi final matches. LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal awarded these winner-schools with cash prizes of Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively, and also honoured the best players with trophies.


Congratulating the winner team and encouraging all other players, Chancellor Mr Mittal informed: “Seeing the overwhelming response from top schools of the state, we want to enhance the stature of this ‘Tournament’. Our university sports experts will continue promoting cricket and other favourite games of the youth from the very initial stages. It is going to help not only our state but our country also, as the best of the hidden talents will automatically come forward to further strengthen the sports anvil of the country."

LPU student honoured with ‘Best Poster Award’ for Research on Green Nanotechnology

  • Occasion was International Conference on Science and Engineering of Materials (ICSEM)-2014 organized in Delhi

  • Suggested greatly effective antimicrobial-antiseptic productivity  from “Neem  leaves & Egg-white” for usage of humanity


Jalandhar:  One of the research students of LPU and her team members are honoured with ‘Best Poster Award’ for research on Green Nanotechnology at International conference on Science and Engineering of Materials (ICSME), 2014 in Delhi. Among 135 national and international research posters presented, LPU student of M Sc Microbiology Tanushree Laha was highly appreciated for her poster P-88 on “biological synthesis of silver nano particles from egg-white and their antimicrobial activity”.  Laha also received cash prize of Rs 5000, a coveted certificate and memento as first prize; and, the second prize was awarded to a student from Malaysia. Two more posters P-33 and P-59 were presented by other young researchers from the school of biotechnology of the university. All of these research-works suggested greatly effective antimicrobial-antiseptic productivity from commonly found ‘Neem’ leaves & egg-white for general usage of masses.
Another LPU student, Garima Kadiyan worked on herbal aspects by using ‘Putranjiva wall leaves’ for their application in low cost drinking water purification. Still another student, Prasoon Joshi presented research on green synthesis of zinc oxide nano-particle and its application as an effective anti-microbial agent. LPU Vice Chancellor Dr Ramesh Kanwar congratulated the young researchers of the university and advised them to continue working on human needed works. Dr Kanwar highlighted that the research works of the students are totally eco-friendly and without any harmful chemical synthesis.

At the conference, the focus was on the topics covering recent advances of materials. Different research works revealed scientific & engineering aspects, synthesis and application in smart devices. The deliberations were categorized into (i) Invited Talk – by senior scientists/ professors of the field, (ii) contributory oral talks – by experts working on different fields, and (iii) Posters  by researchers.  Participating students are feeling happy on their achievements and mentoring by the department of Research & Development, through their teachers.

LPU hosting T-20 Invitational School Cricket Tournament 2014

·   360 young cricketers of 24 teams from top schools of Chandigarh & Punjab are participating
·   Final matches for 1st, 2nd & 3rd places will be played on 15th January 2014



Jalandhar: Lovely Professional University is hosting T-20 Invitational School Cricket Tournament 2014 to promote cricket at grass root level in the country.  As an under-19 T-20 format cricket tournament, it is being held under the guidance of university cricket experts. The one-week tournament, up to 15th January 2014 for 24 knock out matches, is being held at two pitches of LPU Sports Stadium. Tournament is exhibiting great cricketing action as many state and national under-14, 16 & 19 players, who have played under School Games Federation of India, are representing different teams.
Near 360 young cricketers from 24 top schools of Chandigarh and Punjab are participating. They are getting applaud from many thousands of university student- spectators for their strokes-full batting, alert-fielding, brilliant bowling & catches. The winner, first and second runners up teams will be awarded cash prizes worth Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 & Rs 10,000 respectively. NIS qualified officials are looking after all the affairs of the tournament to maintain general control of the game. The tournament is made more attractive as live commentary and telecasting of the matches is being done inside the entire university premises.
Encouraging budding cricketers of the state, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal informed: “Our University has great zeal to encourage sporting talent amongst Indian youth along with their academic abilities. This tournament has been designed as a sports platform for the school students of the state to showcase their cricketing passion. Through this platform they can further develop their talents on the cricket field like famous cricketers of the state Harbhajan Singh, Yash Pal Sharma and others.” Mr Mittal further said: “Our step is to promote and develop the game from the initial level for the talented players living hidden in many schools, small towns, villages etc.”

Results of the matches played:
1.     Cambridge School, Phagwara defeated British Olivia Public School, Jalandhar by 8 Wickets.
2.      Gems Cambridge International School, Hoshiarpur defeated Baba Farid Public School, Faridkot by 10 wickets.
3.     MCA, Mohali defeated Sacred Heart Sr Sec School, Ludhiana by 6 wickets

4.     MGN Public School, Jalandhar defeated Presentation Public School, Pathankot by 8 wickets 

LPU NSS Volunteers to participate Republic Day Parade 2014 in New Delhi

Selected among 200 students from all across the country



Jalandhar: Two National Service Scheme (NSS) students of Lovely Professional University have been selected to take part in the ceremonial Republic Day Parade 2014 to be held at India Gate in New Delhi. It is great national honour as these students will parade before President, Prime Minister and top international and national personalities of India and other countries. Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, has selected only 200 student-volunteers from 5-zones across India in the toughest competition. The selected students are Debanshu of B Tech Civil Engineering (III Yr) and Sangeeta of B Tech-M Tech ECE (2015 Pass Out). They have been selected keeping in view their overall performance for parade, cultural activities, proficiency to participate in debate on different social issues, and ability to depict the culture of their state. Both will also be awarded coveted testimonials from President for their massive participation.
One of the two groups of these selected volunteers will take part in prestigious parade at Rajpath – Vijay Chowk to India Gate on 26th January 2014. They will parade along with the Military, Navy, Air Force, and other Para -Military forces. The second group will present their cultural talent at the prestigious venues of the country- President House, Prime Minister House and other allied important places.

Congratulating the students LPU Chancellor Ashok Mittal said: “I am happy and proud that our students have been selected to show their talents at the top national ceremonial celebration which is witnessed live world over. It is also note-worthy that these students are from great technology streams; however, their volunteering zeal and talents have made them to be great participants of the ‘Parade’.”

Personal Contact Program organized at LPU Campus for Distance Education Students


Jalandhar: Directorate of Distance Education of LPU conducted fifteen-day classes for Distance Education (LPU DE) students under Personal Contact Program at the university campus. Students from across country and even foreign lands attended the classes. LPUDE students grabbed the golden chance to interact with highly qualified and experienced faculty of the university.  The classes were conducted for different programs of Management, Computer Applications, Information Technology and other streams. The students from far off places were provided accommodation and food during the classes.
LPU Director General Er HR Singla informed: “In addition to providing exhaustive online support, study material in self learning format, effective communication system to DE students, we lay great stress on Personal Contact Program (PCP). These classes made students to learn as regular students under world-class teaching learning methodology.”

Illustrative, all the students enrolled at the Directorate were intimated individually about the counselling schedule, which was also notified to each co-ordinator of different contact centers. The students who availed PCP Classes and the Hostel Facility had registered for the same in advance through website www.lpude.in
