LPU School of Hotel Management organised annual International level Culinary Festival- ‘Flavours 2014'

  • LPU School of Hotel Management & Tourism became ‘Overall Champion’

Jalandhar: Upholding India’s richness for splendid foods and festivals, School of Hotel Management of LPU organized students’ favourite annual culinary extravaganza and competitive food festival- ‘Flavours 2014'. The organization show-cased talents of hundreds of would be chefs and culinary personalities from top hotel management institutions of the northern region. The competition brought forward best compositions of remarkable food, innovative national/international dishes and amazing groups of talented students.  The competition was also to promote “Chef Profession” among young students.  
Invited guests of the occasion included, Mr Glenn Peat GM Hyatt Regency (Ldh) &  S Manvinder Singh, Executive Chef, and Mr Jatinder Uppal, Joint Secretary Indian Culinary Forum (Ex Corporate Chef Taj Hotels & Resorts, & Executive Chef Common Wealth Games- 2010). A number of competitions under categories- (i) Creative starter (Individual) (two portions each), (ii) Three Course International Menu & (iii) Three Course Innovative Indian Menu. Invited judges and experts from Industry examined various events and motivated participants. Following international rules, the students were awarded separately for accuracy of recipe or the use of main ingredient allotted (in case of basket), presentation/balance, taste, technique/skill, creativity, hygiene & use of indigenous ingredients.
The winner for the competition ‘Creative starter’ is LPU student Lella Venkatesh; whereas 1st runner up is  Vivek Bhatt from Amrapalli institute of Hotel Management (AIHM) Haldwani & 2nd runner up is Abhishek of Panjab university, Chandigarh. For ‘Three Course Indian Menu’ winners are Ramesh Rawat and Pranshu Bajpai of Maharishi Dayanand University Rohatak; whereas, 1st runners up are LPU students Harsh Apurva and Jyotsana, and 2nd runners up are Aryan Mathur and Kunal kathpalia from AIHM, Haldwani. For ‘Three Course International Menu’ again winners are LPU students Manpreet Singh and Sumit Nandal; 1st runners up are MDU Rohtak students Mohit and Kuldeep; whereas, 2nd runners up are once again LPU students Sonam Wangmo and Jambay Tenzin.
Congratulating the winners LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “Hospitality industry is continuously growing and is presumed to grow more and more, thereby adding millions of new jobs to the present work force.”  He further informed: “Through this competition, the endeavour of our School of Hospitality is to impart knowledge, skills, concepts and techniques to the students to learn and emerge as global hospitality service providers.”

Winner Bhutanese students of LPU, Sonam Wangmo and Jambay Tenzin said: “We competed to have experience of culinary excellence, and to build self-confidence by interacting with fellow students, seniors and experts. It indeed proved a great platform for us as we learnt leadership qualities and team dynamics. This motivation which we got from acclaimed national & international chefs would certainly lead us to become great professionals of the field.”
