*Inaugurated ‘Earth Day Festival 2014’ organized by LPU NSS volunteers

Jalandhar: Evening today was fabulous and marvellous at LPU campus as Punjabi music & films’ living legend, Gurdas Mann performed at LPU stage. Maan outpoured his all time hits Dil Da Mamla Hai, Mamla Gadbad, Chhalla, Boot Polishan and many more to enthrall as well as awaken LPU students and staff-members alike. Versatile singer, lyricist choreographer, class- actor; Maan interacted with the students and shared important phases of his life. Being a fluent singer even in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Haryanvi and Rajasthani languages, Maan got overwhelming response from the audience. Maan inaugurated ‘Earth Day Festival 2014’ organized by LPU NSS volunteers, and unveiled Earth Symbol. Maan also forwarded important tips to the LPU students of Journalism & Film Production program to add luster to their career in film-line. Emperor of the world of Punjabi Music for the last three-decades-Maan was accompanied by Punjabi stars Neeru Bajwa, Jassi Gill & others.
Welcoming Gurdass Maan, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal highlighted:“Mr Maan is the real promoter of Punjabi culture, customs and traditions among youth. Present young generation has grown listening to his superb melodious as well as didactic songs which always uphold humane values and kind considerations. LPU students are lucky to interact with a great personality like him.”
Legendary Maan was humble in his address when he thanked young generation at LPU for liking his different creations. He also informed that his new film ‘Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaar' is a family entertainer which has all elements of love, romance, drama, action and comedy meant for the youth. He congratulated the NSS volunteers on their varied celebrations for World Earth Day. He also wished that Film Production students should work for Punjabi film industry with passion as and when they complete their programs. The Iconic singer-actor also appealed to all of his student fans to cast their vote during the coming parliamentary elections.
Illustrative, since gaining national attention in 1980, Gurdas Maan has gone on to record near 40 albums and more than 300 songs. Starred in many Bollywood, Pollywood, Tollywood blockbusters; and, receiver of numerous honours & awards, including National Jury’s Award (2004) & Best Male Playback Singer (2006) awards by two Presidents of India, Gurdas Maan has also been conferred upon an honorary Doctor of Music degree by the University of Wolver-Hampton. Maan has also honour of performing at the Royal Albert Hall (UK)- an opportunity that very few artists come across. Maan is recognized as a class-actor for his performance in the film ‘Waris Shah-Ishq Da Waaris’, which is the first Punjabi movie nominated for OSCAR Awards 2006.
