Jalandhar: To study malnutrition problem in India a group of 13 students and faculty members from IOWA State University of USA visited Lovely Professional University. LPU’s nutrition and dietetics department supported the group in their study and held mutual discussions to study & work for finding solutions to malnutrition problem particularly in India. This was the third visit of students from foreign universities in this session after visits from Mount Royal University Canada & Coventry University UK.

LPU organising two-week Summer Camp for Young Kids

 Jalandhar:  As a part of corporate social responsibility (CSR), Lovely Professional University has been organising two-week summer camp for young kids. Through this 14 day program school children are being exposed to university environ with exciting sessions of valuable learning.  To last up to 21st June 2014, the camp program is enhancing school students’ communication skills, recreational sports, kitchen preparations, dinning etiquettes, interior designing, art-craft, dance, music and allied skills. University’s division of student affairs has designed more than 50 special activities in this context. Different sessions are helping students for their overall personality development.  The young campers are not only enjoying the educational environment of the largest university of the country, but also being able to think on big dimensions.

More than 50 entrepreneurial projects started by LPU students in the session 2013-14

Jalandhar: In addition to getting suitably placed with top global companies, LPU students also started more than 50 entrepreneurial projects during the session 2013-14. At present many students are adopting entrepreneurship as a career move and have started various business ventures even before they graduated. The examples of entrepreneurship among students are in different domains. Some of the businesses started by students include: My Radio campus: LPU ON AIR; Wannabuy; N-Books; Chinese Corner, Froot-Shoot; Go-Sporty and many more. To ensure entrepreneurship among students, LPU is providing hands-on experience to students through various workshops, lectures, interactions and more.

230 students of LPU Distance Education got recruited with top companies & Institutions


Jalandhar: In different placement drives, 230 students of Lovely Professional University Distance Education (LPUDE) have been selected by top companies and institutions. LPUDE students have been selected at annual salary package up to Rs 3.6 lacs. The students have been placed with prestigious companies and banks like ICICI Bank, LIC India, HDFC Bank, Ing Vyasya Bank, Max Life Insurance, Indya Lights, RDB Insurance Broking Services, Konnection India Dotcom, Kotak Mahindra Bank and many others. Selected as Administrators, Executives, Financial Advisers, Development Managers, Associate Partners, Accountants, Store Mangers, Tele-sales Executives, Assistant Acquisition Managers and teachers, almost all of the selected students have joined their duties with their respective selectors.

Congratulating the successful students, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “I am very happy to note that our distance education students have also proved their mettle. Their selection with top companies show their zeal to rise in life through education received from distance mode. I also congratulate LPUDE mentors who continue to guide distance education students for availing such coveted chances.” Mr Mittal added: “We accord equal chances to our regular as well as distance education students. For placements we keep on maintaining Industry relations, and we involve industry in all of our curriculum designing, even in to our evaluation procedure. Every time a course is designed industry feedback and inputs are taken to ensure that the courses are industry relevant.   As such, our both type of students (regular & distance education) are enjoying great placement with super global brands in almost all sectors- banking, IT, consultancy and more.”

Professor from Lakehead University Canada instructed Faculty Development Program (FDP) at LPU

  • One week FDP was for research methodology skills

Jalandhar: Faculty-members and research scholars from all across different disciplines of Lovely Professional University took advantage of one week faculty development program (FDP). Going as per the vision of the university the FDP was designed to provide latest research methodology skills and research proposals to all the participants. This unique research oriented opportunity was organised under the guidance of Dr Chander K Shahi, Chair of HBScF Program, Faculty of Natural Resources Management, Lakehead University Canada.

Feeling very happy among the young researchers of LPU, Dr Shahi informed: “India has a great potentiality for research work. This is the main reason that Indians are at the helm of research works even in foreign universities and institutions. I am elated on being an important part of such a research endeavour at the top university of India.” Dr Shahi also told that research involves a process of collaborative activities rather than the application of isolated, unrelated concepts and ideas.”

FDP was intended to develop participants’ knowledge about the process of research. Right from identifying a research problem to the dissemination of information gathered, the participants developed research proposals clearly outlining expected results. The research proposals were culminated in reports for presentations in the class.  This program built theoretical and practical abilities of the participants to understand the philosophy and science behind research. The objective of the program was to review a wide variety of philosophical and practical topics.

On the Conclusive day of the FDP program, LPU Vice-Chancellor Dr Ramesh Kanwar said; “Our highly innovative and interdisciplinary research community continues to drive ground breaking projects. Through researches made, faculty members and students effort to solve real world problems. To strengthen this endeavour, we keep on inviting unparalleled experts from across the globe.”

Seven days’ work plan for FDP remained as introduction to the process of research, responsibility of scientists, philosophy and science, types of research, social constructivism, introduction to research proposals, literature maps, research questions, research hypothesis, limits of knowledge, multiple working hypothesis, making sense of data, learning to become a scientist, analytical methods, ethics in research, writing research reports, presentation skills and various research activities.

LPU advocated Total Reduction in Tobacco Consumption

*Organised ‘World No Tobacco Day’ on district level


Highlighting the health risks associated with tobacco use, World Health Organisation marks World No Tobacco Day every year.   LPU also supported this humane cause and organised district level seminar to advocate total reduction in tobacco consumption. Various ill-effects of tobacco usage were also highlighted. The theme of WHO this year was to make a call on all countries to raise taxes on tobacco products. Civil Surgeon Kapurthala Dr Rajesh Kapila & NCC Wing Commanding Officer Jarnail Singh supported the organization; whereas, LPU Director General Er HR Singla presided over. Er Singla was hard enough on tobacco users and wanted that such persons should not be allowed to work or study, at least, in the educational institutions. CO Jarnail Singh informed about the dangerous diseases as an outcome of tobacco using, and Dr Kapila informed about the large-scaled destructive nature of tobacco. All present on the occasion vowed to say complete no to tobacco.

Tall Tally of 300+ Global and Indian Super-brands recruited LPU Students

Jalandhar: The placement process for the graduating batch of the Lovely Professional University has been successfully completed with students being placed across various sectors and functions of their choice. This year more than 150 top global and Indian super brand recruited LPU students taking the total number of recruiters to more than 300. Though companies from multiple sectors including consultancy, banking, finance, engineering, fashion, e-commerce and many have recruited LPU students but the top sector to recruit largest number of students remained IT.  In terms of number of offers, IT giant Cognizant was the top recruiter across all the sectors and clusters. It recruited 939 students from LPU campus in this session alone. As a part of the corporate social responsibility, LPU also invited many of the students from other colleges and universities to participate in the LPU campus placement drives. The second biggest recruiter remained HCL which recruited 98 LPU students in a single placement drive.

Sharing about the coveted placements of the students, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “This year our students were also offered international placements by top companies including Adnani Wilmar of US and Al Rakha from Dubai. The successful completion of the recruitment cycle for the batch graduating in 2014 is a strong testament to the high quality of students at the university and the robust nature of the placement process that provides adequate flexibility to both students and recruiters.” The costs to company packages offered are up to nine lakh per annum.  Most of the students have been offered location of service in top metros including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, and Hyderabad.

Management students this year were well attracted by the e-commerce as well consultancy firms. In the management field the top sector to recruit highest numbers remained retail & financial services. Pharmacy students also saw steep rise in the offered package as not only pharmaceutical companies but also research centers came for the recruitment of the talent. Students of even physical education saw fantastic students as all 61 students doing M P Ed from the university also got placed in top MNC’s. LPU’s Hotel management students also got great opportunities in big hospitality groups like Leela, Taj, Oberois etc. Not only multi-national companies, private sectors & NGOs but prestigious government sectors including Navy reached LPU campus to get the best human resource, and many of these companies made repeated approaches.

 Further commenting about the placements, Chancellor Mr Mittal said, "I am happy to note that this session too many top companies have recruited remarkable number of LPU students. I feel proud while sharing that our students are being sought after by prestigious banks, consultancy, info-services, pharmacy and other important sectors.” Adding he said: “No doubt, we ensure that LPU students are job ready and are given training of global standards; yet, we also encourage students to take up entrepreneurship as a career. This year, many students also opted out of the placement process to start their own ventures.”
