Bollywood film production company- ‘UVI Filmz’ holding 3-day auditions at LPU to select lead & supporting female-actors

Jalandhar: Bollywood film production company- ‘UVI Filmz’ is holding three-day auditions at Lovely Professional University to select lead and supporting female-actors for a forthcoming film.  Specially organised for LPU girl- students, the auditions will continue upto 1st September 2014 seeing the heavy registrations. Near 1500 girl-students from all streams have registered to show their talent for selection. Director Saket Behl, Producer Sanyukta Ghosh, Story writer Yash Kapoor & Screenplay writer Sanjeev Vig are at LPU campus to select extra-ordinary students.  Vipul Roy & Harish Verma are the lead stars of the film which is expected to premier this year only. During first round, 40 students have been short-listed for final selection of 12 students through two more rounds. LPU students from School of Journalism & Film Production are co-ordinating with audition- team for selection process.

LPU Distance Education Students exhibited Literary- Skills during specially designed competition at LPU campus

  • DE students team from Raikot area won debate competition
  • Students pledged to eradicate drug-abuse totally from the state
Jalandhar: Near 250 Distance Education (DE) students of Lovely Professional University from the Malwa Belt of Punjab visited university campus. In order to make DE students share the same platform as that of regular LPU students a literary–skills competition was held. Belonging to different streams of LPU DE programs, students from Raikot and Jagraon areas were given on the spot topics to test their spontaneity and ingenuity. Students spoke on varied issues ranging from politics pollution, education, drug abuse, sports, media and more. Debate on social-ills witnessed positive arguments from all the teams. Students vowed to wage a war against drug-abuse to eradicate this horrible social-ill totally from the State.

Google opened its first all Women Developer Network of North India at LPU

Jalandhar: World IT leader, Google opened its first all women developer network of North India at Lovely Professional University. The group would be called as Google Developer Group Women (GDGW). About 200 students, including those from different institutions of North India, attended the inaugural session. Amid huge applause, LPU girl alumna Shalki Nagpal, presently employed with HCL Technologies, was nominated as ‘Organizer’ of the GDGW Jalandhar. LPU girl-students of different streams presented informative demonstrations about yet to be released Google Glass, Android wear, Google Card Board & Android Auto Introduction Session.

LPU faculty trained International Trekkers at 17000 feet in Himalayan Range

  • Ventured at Roopkund glacier Trek in Uttarakhand
  • Trekker group included members from USA, Sweden & Norway
  • Planning next to visit Stok Kangri at 20,182 feet in Ladakh region
 Jalandhar: One of the faculty members from the School of Multimedia of Lovely Professional University, Jitendra Sharma trained 26 trekkers at high altitude in Himalayan Range. Trekker-group included members from USA, Sweden & Norway. Sharma conducted landscape photography workshop at Roop-kund glacier trek at 17000 feet in extremely difficult weather conditions. While training the workshop attendees, Sharma’s capturing of enchanting shots of milky- way, sky with shooting stars, views of satellites,  stars-studded sky, aesthetics and landscapes are  being highly appreciated. These clicks are impressively visible, as this place is away from artificial lights and human habitation. The group was also trained to capture majestic beauty of the largest meadows of Asia-Ali Bugyal & Bedini Bugyal.

LPU organised Photography Workshop to commemorate World Photography Day

Jalandhar:  YTV an internal video channel of Lovely Professional University organised ‘Photography Workshop’ to commemorate World Photography Day. Near 200 students of different streams participated to learn technical aspects of photography.  Workshop mentor Dheeraj Paul, faculty of Fine Art at Jamia Millia Islamia University Delhi, conducted workshop and explained fundamentals of photography to the students. Varied important details about shutter, aperture, field-depth, exposure and related techniques were shared for general understanding of the students. Students also learnt special photography skills about people, travels, industry, still-life, food and architecture. Besides outdoor photography students also learnt about indoor lighting situations, studio lighting set-ups, digital photography and advanced professional photography.

Jalandhar: Master winner of so many awards and accolades in his name, Padma Bhushan Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra visited Lovely Professional University today. Considered as ‘He-Man’ of Cinema-world & winner of coveted Film-fare Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Indian cinema, Dharmendra not only interacted with LPU students but also mesmerized them through his powerful presence. Commonly known as Dharam Bhajee in the film industry out of reverence from his colleagues, he was accompanied by Pollywood Star Gippy Grewal.

LPU Distance Education bagged World Education Summit Award (WES) 2014

 Jalandhar: Distance Education program of Lovely Professional University has bagged World Education Summit Award (WES) 2014 for its online Learning Management System, “LPU e-Connect”. ‘WES Award’ for LPU is fourth time in a row since 2011. The Awards ceremony was held in New Delhi which was organised along with UNESCO, AICTE, Ministry of Labour and Employment, top educationists and policy makers from India and abroad. The keynote address was given by Hon’ble Minister Dr Najma Heptulla during the inaugural session.

 Expressing happiness over this achievement, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “It is a matter of great pride to win WES award initiative honour for the fourth time in a row.” Informing about the LPU e-Connect Mr Mittal elaborated: “Our e-connect program is an exceptional online support of LPU Distance Education. It links University and students located at different geographical locations in Punjab. It automates various administrative and academic processes of distance education. Our distance education students do not need to visit the university as they can remain connected through their e-connect account. Moreover, LPU e-connect is very important tool for making all the systems of DE transparent and efficient.”

‘Nasha’ Band enchanted LPU students on the conclusive day of Freshmen Induction Program-2014

Jalandhar: Soulful musical concert by Delhi based ‘Nasha’ band enchanted thousands of newly admitted LPU students on the conclusive day of eleven day Freshmen Induction Program 2014. New students from all the 29 states of India and 26 other countries enjoyed rhythms, vocals, beats, acoustics presented by the artists of the band. Lead vocalist Akhil Sachdeva made students sing and dance along with him on his amazingly popular numbers: Mein tenu samjhawan ki; Haan Mujhe Pasand Hai; O Mahi Ve; U Are the One;  O Re Khuda and O Saajna.  Quite away from any of the nostalgic feelings; Chinese, Russian, South African, other foreign and Indian students enjoyed alike marvelous performances & musical presentations of the band.  Students kept thumping, yodeling, shrieking & clapping hours together during soulful musical concert. Highlighting, Nasha Band’s famous song Mein tenu samjhawan ki remained big hit with bollywood film ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’.

Last date of Admission at LPU is 10th August 2014

  • Last date is for all programs except programs in education & physical education
  • Post- matric scholarship is also available as per central & state government policies
Jalandhar: Last date of admission for different study programs at Lovely Professional University is 10th August, 2014. This last date is for admissions in all programs except for the programs in education & physical education students. After 10th, 12th and graduation, more than 150 study programs are available to admission seekers in different disciplines.

LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal informed: “We are happy to see that students are very eager to receive quality higher education. I am much pleased to know that many thousand students from all the 29 states of India and 26 countries including China, Russia, Columbia and South Africa have got admission this year at LPU.” He further shared that LPU as part of the corporate social responsibility has provided scholarship of Rs one lakh per year to thousands of meritorious students so that financial constraints may not be a hurdle in their education. Though the scholarship program of the university is over, the deserving students can avail the post-matric scholarship as per central & state government policies.

Jalandhar: Thousands of new students from different parts of the world and the country have got admissions in near 150 programs to join new academic session 2014 at Lovely Professional University. In order to make these students enter new phase of their lives comfortably, LPU has devised a detailed eleven-day induction program. New students are being briefed about university systems, policies, support mechanisms and LPU campus life. Following the US system of induction program students are made to involve with many    recreational activities, fun-games, campus rounds & city tours. These and many other ice-breaking sessions and activities have been planned to energize new students for exhibiting their potential and also to make new friends. In addition, special information kit having university rules- regulations, policies, procedures, phone numbers, important places in Jalandhar is also given free of cost to new entrants. Commenced from 29th July the induction program is to continue up to 8th August, 2014.

Bollywood actors interacted with LPU students

Jalandhar: Known for many Hindi, South-Indian, Punjabi films, TV serials and music albums; famous bollywood actors Mukul Dev and Gavie Chahal visited LPU today.  The actors not only interacted with the newly admitted students, but also danced with students on the LPU stage. Both also entertained students by performing on various melodious songs from old and new films. Mukul who is a trained pilot and Gavie who is Mechanical Engineer told students that higher education is must for each and every student to get well settled in life.
