- Was selected one among 679-Member Indian Contingent for 17th Asian Games
Thrilled over her selection, Gurpreet Kaur is elated on being a great part of the contingent in spite of she lost her father lately. Gurpreet exclaims: “It was really a very exciting moment when I got included in the national squad for Asian Games. Punjab had been lagging in handball; however, I was mentored well at my university to get a coveted opportunity from the state for making it to the national squad. At present I am sad that I and my team members could not make it possible to see our team on the victory podium. I will keep on practicing hard to represent Indian team again to surely see our national anthem echoing and tricolor waving inside an international Stadium.”
LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal is also much delighted on seeing LPU student participating in Asian Games. Mr Mittal said: "This is a very good sign, a very positive sign indeed for all the sports women especially of the state. I am happy to share that with this participation my aspiration of seeing our students in Olympic squad will also be materialized in near future.” Mr Mittal congratulated the hard working Ph D student Gurpreet who by maintaining the best equilibrium between sports and studies reached to such a wide recognition.
Illustrative, the selection exercise was undertaken to ensure that the deserving athletes, coaches and supporting personnel are participating in the Games. In the initial selection trials two sports women of LPU were selected for the 40 Hand-ball finalists. However, only Gurpreet Kaur could make it possible to be included in the final 16- member Hand ball national team.
