The Year 2015 proved to be an eventful and bountifully action-packed for Lovely Professional University as it witnessed more than 250 major events throughout the year at its campus, sometimes even simultaneous 3 to 4 on a single day. In the year 2015, top three leaders of the world including two heads of the states Prime Minister of Lesotho Kingdom Dr Pakalitha Bethuel Mosisili, President of Mauritius Rajkeswur Purryag, and Nobel Laureate for Peace & 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso of Tibet graced LPU Convocation Ceremonies. LPU was also honoured as these three influential leaders also accepted LPU’s Doctorate (Honoris Causa) Degrees. LPU also welcomed 70+ dignitaries at the campus. Celebrities like top bollywood stars Akshay Kumar & Jacqueline Fernandez, too, entertained and inspired LPU students. Ambassadors from six countries and eminent national personalities including Governors, Chief Ministers, MPs, TV Channel Head, UGC Chairman, 100+ Vice-Chancellors, Managing-Directors of big-houses also kept on visiting the campus that radiated LPU luster. In addition, coveted placements and entrepreneurship records, research endeavours, large number of Scopus publications, international collaborations, global-conferences held illustrate well that LPU is coming closer to its Vision-2025 swiftly.

Although LPU has achieved a lot, yet the present time is to go for “Pit-Stop” for continuing LPU growth more efficiently.” Continuing he said: “We have to strive together and should plan and take advancement in our own individual areas, as we have to see LPU get included among top 200 universities of the world by the year 2025. I consider that a system cannot be fixed by one person. Both of its people & processes can make a system run efficiently.”

United Nations Model Conference (IGNMUN) inaugurated at LPU with 1000 Participants

Since the United Nations (UN) was founded, it has achieved significant milestones and allowed nations across globe to increase international co-operation and resolve many potential conflicts. To involve youth in this important body of the world and to let it know the significance of United Nations a model United Nations conference has been planned. The aim here is also to encourage individuals who are interested in ideating and debating on key national and global issues. To promote the same, three-day Indira Gandhi National Model United Nations Conference (IGNMUN)-Jalandhar Chapter was inaugurated today at Lovely Professional University. Patron of IGNMUN and former Chief Minister of New Delhi Smt Shiela Dikshit commenced the inaugural session of the conference.
On this inaugural ceremony, former Union Home Minister & former Governor of Punjab Shri Shivraj Patil was the Chief Guest and former Chief Minister Punjab Smt Rajinder Kaur Bhattal was the Guest of Honour. LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro-Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal also shared the dais along with. Founder Chairman of IGNMUN Jalandhar Chapter Mr Gautam Seth, President Abhimanyu & Secretary General Shauryaa Shoor convened the conference.
During IGNMUN, each delegate is to take part in a simulation of the United Nations or another body and gain better insight into the subtleties of international affairs. LPU is collaborating for conduction of the conference at its different venues of the campus up to 28th December 2015. More than 1000 participants are attending the conference.

On the second day of three-day Indira Gandhi National Model United Nations Conference (IGNMUN)-Jalandhar Chapter organized at Lovely Professional University; Student-Delegates from top 80 Institutions from across country discussed vital global issues. More than 1000 participating students Represented different countries, global leaders, sections of society to find out solutions to problems being faced nationally and internationally. For this, Eleven world level committees including United Nations General Assembly, Commission on the Status of Women, United Nations Human Rights Council, Indo- Pak Bilateral Meet, Rajya Sabha were simulated. LPU Faculty honoured with ‘Glory of India Award’

Lovely Professional University Assistant Professor Dr Vinod Kumar from the School of Arts & Languages has been bestowed with ‘Glory of India Award for Education Excellence’. The Economic Growth Society of India awarded Dr Vinod in recognition of his sterling merit, excellence, performance and outstanding contribution for the nation and the globe. The award ceremony was held during national seminar on ‘Individual Growth and Social Development’ at Hotel Taj Vivanta, Panaji, Goa. Out of a total 150+ people considered for awards only 22 educationists from across India were chosen. Presently, Dr Vinod is providing research guidance to LPU’s Ph D and M Phil students. LPU Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal congratulated Dr Vinod on his first-rate achievement and encouraged him to continue devoting himself for the betterment of education and the society.

LPU organized On-Campus Personal Contact Program for its Distance Education students

Lovely Professional University organized Personal Contact Program (PCP) for its Distance Education (DE) students at university campus. Based on the online registration of the students, university planned and conducted PCP classes in the disciplines of Management, Computer Applications, Information Technology, Computer Science, Commerce, Library & Information Sciences and Arts. Classes pertaining to 170 courses were engaged by more than 100 LPU faculty members.
Thousands of students from towns, cities and remote villages of Punjab including Ludhiana, Batala, Amritsar, Patiala,  Bassi Pathana, Tanda Urmar, Bathinda,  Banga, Budhlada, Moga, Sahnewal, Raikot, Sunam, Anandpur Sahib, Mohali, Pathankot and more interacted with subject-expert faculty members of LPU for face to face academic counseling sessions.

Keeping in view the floral business booms globe across, the School of Agriculture of Lovely Professional University organized Chrysanthemum Floral Exhibition to inspire students towards production of exotic flower varieties like national flower of Japan-Chrysanthemum.  For this, 55 varieties of Chrysanthemum were collected from across the country and displayed in 2000+ pots at the campus.  This arrangement was in special for B.Sc 4th year students under Rural Agriculture Works Experience (RAWE) program of the university. With Korean single and double flowers, it was well exhibited and explained that Chrysanthemum is an indoor variety that has a very low maintenance requirement. These come in a variety of colours and are available in abundance in a much demanded season when no other flowers bloom. The exhibition was inaugurated by British Member of Parliament Mr Virendra Sharma of Ealing Southall Parliament constituency of the United Kingdom. Illustrative, as per a report by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham), the floriculture industry in India is fast growing at 30-40 percent year on year in to many billions of rupees.

Harvard University Professor motivated LPU Scientists to research on Personalized Medicines

The School of Biotechnology & Biosciences of Lovely Professional University conducted interactive session on ‘System Biology and Personalized Medicine’ for LPU students and faculty-members. Renowned Bio-Informatician from Harvard Medical School (Boston) USA, Dr Manoj K Bhasin reached LPU Campus for this great research boosting expedition to ultimately improve the human condition. His lecture motivated LPU scientists to research in the area of personalized medicine which is an ability to modify treatments for the unique characteristics of each cancer patient in particular. It is being understood world over that personalized medicines provide better treatments and fewer side effects, in comparison to traditional treatment through radiotherapy & chemotherapy. Dr Manoj also addressed researchers at PGI (Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research) Chandigarh.

Organized first time at LPU Campus, OCLD test declared 8 LPU students successful among a total of 12 selected from Punjab. More than 250 students had appeared for the test from 10 Institutions of Punjab including PCTE Ludhiana, DBU Mandi Gobindgarh, GNA, CT, Doaba College Jalandhar and more. LPU students will join their duties as Guest Service Associates in different service sectors of the Group at handsome salary package after completion of their programs in June 2016. LPU organized Google ‘Startup Weekend’ to promote Entrepreneurship among Students

Remaining amazingly involved, LPU students learnt in just 54 hours how to startup by experiencing highs, lows, and pressure about business model creation and market validation. While learning how to create a real company, students also became sure to get the very best mentors, investors, co-founders, and sponsors on their way to a startup. Google Developers Group Jalandhar, running at LPU campus, also organized its annual Development Fest (DevFest-2015) on this occasion. In preliminary written round of the seventh season of this auto quiz,  LPU mechanical engineering students’ team ‘Die Rivalen’ of Sri Raj Deepak Akki and Karumudi Narendra has been selected from Jalandhar. For this Satellite Round, 4000 auto enthusiast students from different institutions had participated in 2000 teams of two members each. Now for further two more City & Finale rounds, LPU team will further showcase their passion and intelligence about the world of automobiles from 20th November 2015 in Patiala and New Delhi. Near 4000 LPU students of Batch 2015 pass outs were also awarded with degrees. On the same day, LPU proudly conferred the Degree of Doctor of Divinity, Honoris Causa, upon His Holiness Dalai Lama for his courageous statesmanship, scientific temperament, and universal benevolence. The penultimate day of five-day global open fest- “Youth Vibe- 2015” being held at Lovely Professional University witnessed today massive competitive spirit for various cultural, management, technology, literary and social events. For mega competitions more than 5000 contestants from 200 institutions of the country are competing neck to neck to win laurels for their respective institution.  As such,   LPU Youth Vibe-2015 fest becomes the biggest Youth Festival of the country. The second day of 3-day annual talent finding competitive cultural fest of Lovely Professional University ‘SPECTRA 2015’ witnessed today 30 massive competitions for which  3000 LPU students showcased their viable talent. The annual event is for competitions in music, dance, theatre, literary & fine arts categories till 16th October 2015. Acclaimed Judges from the related event category and industry are evaluating participants’ performances. One of the judges, music director Mr RK Bassi has promised singing competition winner student to launch a music album with the student within 15 days.  Fun filled competitive fiesta is not only entertaining the students but also enlightening & enhancing their competitive spirit.  Thousands of other on-looking students also enjoyed unique cuisines at food stalls raised by different departments of LPU. Tomorrow, more competitions will be held under 20 titles and these will be followed by prize distribution ceremony.

Three-day annual talent finding competitive cultural festival ‘SPECTRA 2015’ opened today at Lovely Professional University through SPIC MACAY classical performance by Odissi dance expert Kavita Dwibedi. The annual event is scheduled to hold massive competitions in music, dance, theatre, literary & fine arts up to 16th October 2015. The competitions are to identify the best cultural talent among the students of different LPU departments, even other than performing & fine arts departments including those of engineering, sciences, pharmacy, architecture. Near 3000 participating students organized a talent caravan throughout the campus as a cultural procession.

The School of Biotechnology & Biosciences of Lovely Professional University organized two day workshop on ‘Entrepreneurship’. Secretary of Indo-US Collaboration for Engineering Education (IUCEE), Mr Ashok Kalbag sensitized hundreds of LPU students of different departments for learning by doing.  He motivated LPU students to design new projects as ‘Import Substitution’ so as to boost Indian economy. The target of the workshop was also to integrate students of different disciplines, and encouraged them to work in multi-disciplinary teams to design society needed entrepreneurial projects. Lovely Professional University students witnessed today mesmerizing theatrics from theater-veteran Nadira Zaheer Babbar’s popular play ‘Yeh Hai Bombay Meri Jaan’ enacted at its densely packed SDM Auditorium. The play entertained and awakened students through deep humour, pathos, satires & social concerns alike. Actor, playwright, director Nadira’s this production was enacted by artistes from her Mumbai based theatre group ‘Ekjute’. Nadira is wife of reputed bollywood star turned politician RaJ Babbar. LPU students from the School of Performing Arts learnt important theatric-skills from the performance. Along with National School of Drama graduate Nadira, other famous performers from Mumbai included Sangam Shukla  who acted as Devi Da, Mithilesh Maihar (Tikam), Manav Pande (Rajan), Rajiv Singh (Laxmi), Devesh (Arif Ali), Neha Shaikh (Mrs Nancy), Anupama Negi (Raila), Gunjan (Bela) and Hanif Patni. Living their characters, these actors acted in a spontaneous manner and by being in gripping connection with LPU audience. Structurally, the play focuses on various issues that strugglers have to face in Mumbai to find a place in bollywood film industry.

The global theme celebrated this year is “Pharmacists: Your Partners in Health”.  Near 600 LPU pharmacy students and staff-members gathered on a common platform and organized the event by scheduling many interesting programs. FIP encourages pharmacists worldwide to participate in such celebrations every year on 25th September, the day it (FIP) was founded. UK students on exchange program at LPU from faculty of Health & Wellbeing at University of Wolver-Hampton also participated in different celebrative parts of the day.

Pulsing the same & carrying forward  Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari’s aim to bring utmost safety on Indian roads & highways, Lovely Professional University hosted  Government of India supported ‘Road to Safety’ workshop at its campus. The workshop was organized by the Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE) and the Diageo India Foundation to enhance road safety in India.  Hundreds of LPU students were trained about defensive road usage and fast changing traffic scenario by guest faculty from IRTE.

LPU Mechanical Engineering Students’ Innovative-Technology increases Mileage, reduces Pollution

Two of Lovely Professional University Mechanical Engineering students, Surender Kakkar and Johnny have innovated out an eco-friendly mileage enhancing mechanical kit for Two-Wheelers of 100cc to 350cc. Usage of this kit ‘Mileage Doctor’, as the inventing students named it, will increase vehicle's mileage up to 25%. In addition, this kit is also to control carbon-particles pollution usually emitted through the vehicles. Presently used for Petrol driven two wheelers, LPU students are further researching to make it effective for diesel vehicles even up to the heavy vehicles. For future very economical scope, students are also very keen to use their hydrogen and water based solution preparation only as fuel in place of petrol or diesel. LPU students have even dared to enter automotive market commercially with their novel Kit which is very affordably available, easy to install & also to enhance engine-life.

LPU students got Jobs even Months before their Final Examinations


Leading global companies Root Analysis & Asahi India Ltd have recently selected LPU students as Management & GE Trainees even being in the final year of their respective programs. Selected students are very happy by having jobs in their pockets even before stepping ahead of their academic pursuits in to career world. Selected students will join their duties on an annual salary package up to Rs 3 Lac per annum plus incentives & variables, in 2016, after appearing in final examinations of their related programs.  One of the selected students Yateesh Bhardwaj, who is pursuing his B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, is extremely happy on being relaxed about repaying his bank-loan as he has now been selected even before appearing for the final examinations.

Every year many thousand people die world over due to genetic disease blood cancer. Considering the grimness of the situation, great medical teams and researchers are continuously striving to wipe out this killer-disease ‘blood cancer’. One of the Ph D students Yogender Shokeen from the School of Biotechnology & Bio-Sciences of Lovely Professional University has also been working on such a research project continuously for last 3 years to identify changes in gene responsible for blood cancer.  Impressed by his important findings, European Cancer Congress has selected Yogender for a Fellowship Grant to attend its 18th ECCO - 40th ESMO conference to be held in Vienna (Austria) from 25-29 September 2015. LPU student has been specially invited to present his research work, which has got major breakthrough for checking blood cancer in future by having further researches on his findings. Students from the School of Agriculture of Lovely Professional University have won Inter-University Regional Competition on Water Resources Management for their proposal on floating Island approach for sustainable development of Kanjli wetland (in District Kapurthala, Punjab). LPU team’s proposal was highly appreciated by the masses and judges.  Teams further selected on national level will work on the proposal with the help of experts from India and Germany. Through this project, students are expected to develop a multi-stakeholder understanding of the need for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). Winning team in nationals will receive awards worth of Rs 14 Lakh, research stays, internship opportunities and grants to support the project.

On the conclusive day of LPU School of Business’ international conference on ‘Strategies for Global Competitiveness and Economic Growth’, experts from many countries including USA, UAE, Iraq, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and different states of India forwarded concerns and solutions simultaneously.  During six technical sessions and a Webinar held on two days, numerous important research papers were presented to awaken the young business students of the university and those of globe over. Initiating the second day of the conference through Webinar, Former Director at California State University USA, Prof CE Tapie Rohm Jr presented a comparative study of USA, India, Russia and China. Underlining areas of agriculture, industry, information, services and more, USA academic leader hinted through graphical demonstrations that India is in great transitional phase and technology is a key to help it for this global technology transitional period.

 As the world economy is going through a difficult phase, Lovely Professional University has risen to the occasion by organizing an international conference on ‘Strategies for Global Competitiveness and Economic Growth’. Through its ACBSP accredited School of Business, LPU has brought together experts from different disciplines and part of the world at the conference to discuss diverse issues and strategies. The issues include sluggish growth in developed economies; conflict of interests between developing and developed world; regional economic strains & armed conflicts; challenging international economic cooperation and more. In the Conference 200+ papers in 55 sub topics under would be discussed during different sessions on both the days. Head of the League of Arab States Mission Hon’ble Dr Mazin Al-Masoudi inaugurated the opening session of the conference today. On this occasion, an International Journal and a Book, containing important research papers concerning the conference, were also released.

Society for Automotive Engineering-Northern India Section(SAENIS) and Lovely Professional University have collaborated to host SAE India’s eco-friendly national event ‘EFFICYCLE 2015’ in October 2015. SAE is a national body for the automobile engineers and has been working with individuals from top automobile community including engineers, executives and academicians since 2002. Effi-cycle is annual national event which is to promote renewable and alternative energy usage. During the event, a huge participation of 101 student-teams from across India will showcase students’ vehicle mobility expertise.
