AIU’s All India Inter University Women Boxing Championship Concluded at LPU


  • LPU Pooja & Jyoti declared the Best Promising & the Best Challenger boxer of the Championship and Nikhat Zareen of Osmania University Hyderabad declared the Best Boxer
  • Kurukshetra University lifted overall championship Trophy with 37 points; MDU Rohtak declared 1st Runner-up with 32 points; and, LPU stood 2nd Runner-up with 23 points
  • KUK Boxers won 3 gold & 3 bronze medals; MDU girls clinched 2 gold, 2 silver & 1 bronze; and, LPU grabbed 3 silver and 1 bronze medal

Exhibiting super-power lying within tender considered women, All India Inter University Women Boxing Championship-2014-15 concluded today at Lovely Professional University. Panel of International & National judges declared Nikhat Zareen of Osmania University Hyderabad as the Best Boxer; and two women boxers of LPU Pooja & Jyoti as the Best Promising & the Best Challenger Boxer of the Championship. Kurukshetra University lifted overall championship Trophy with 37 points; MDU Rohtak declared 1st Runner-up with 32 points; and, LPU stood 2nd Runner-up with 23 points. Following them in chronology are Punjabi University Patiala, GNDU Amritsar, University of Delhi, Punjab University Chandigarh and so on. KUK Boxers won 3 gold & 3 bronze medals; MDU girls clinched 2 gold, 2 silver & 1 bronze; and, LPU grabbed 3 silver and 1 bronze medals. Second phase of AIIU Boxing Championship for men will commence from 24th Feb at LPU Boxing Rings to last up to 4th March, 2015.

Sharing their experiences for the championship held at LPU, AIU Observer Dr JS Kajal, Chief Coach of Osmania University Mr E Chiranjeevi, Commissioner of Boxing Mr Levi d Gama and all other officials and participants praised on heartedly about the nicest arrangements for holding the championship at LPU, be it the boxing rings, lodging-boarding or all other related facilities. All wished to have more of such organizations at LPU. The best boxer Nikhat Zareen promised to keep up her power of punches to bring medals for India at all international levels. Illustrative, maximum of the participating women boxers of different universities have already played at world level in sub-junior, junior, and senior level also in countries including Korea, Turkey, Siberia, Bulgaria and more.

Congratulating all the winners, participants, and LPU organizing team members for the successful outcome of the women championship, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal declared the closing of women boxing championship. Inspiring the boxers Mr Mittal asked them to keep on practicing harder to bring glory to the country and their respective universities from big platforms like Olympic Games. He said; “Seeing your potentialities and power, we have great expectations from all of you. I would like to share that even men boxers should learn devotion and perseverance from you all.”

Some of the excellent Final results are:  In a light fly weight category (45-48 kg) Rajesh Narwal of MDU, Rohtak defeated Saroj of LPU. In a fly weight category (48-51 kg) Nikhat Zareen of Osmania University, Hyderabad defeated Ritu of MDU, Rohtak. In a Bantam weight category (51-54 kg) Renu of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishvavidyalaya University, Sonepat defeated Ritu Devi of Panjab University, Chandigarh. In a feather weight category (54-57 kg) Neelam of Kurukshetra University defeated Mandeep of Punjabi University, Patiala. In a light weight category (57-60 kg) Priyanka Thakur of GNDU defeated Jyoti of LPU. In a light welter category (60-64 kg) Poonam of Maharaja Ganga Singh University, Bikaner defeated Kiran of MDU, Rohtak. In a welter weight category (64-69 kg) Heena Toaks of Delhi University defeated Pooja of LPU. In a light middle weight category (69-75 kg) Sweety of Kurukshetra University defeated Supinder Pal of Punjabi University, Patiala. In a light heavy weight category (75-81 kg) Preeti of Kurukshetra University defeated Ninderjeet Kaur of Punjabi University, Patiala. In a Heavy weight category (81+ kg) Diksha of MDU, Rohtak defeated Amandeep Kaur of Panjan University, Chandigarh.
