President of Mauritius, Mr Rajkeswur Purryag, advised LPU students to follow great values and teachings of great Rishi, Muni and holy scriptures, Ramayana & Mahabharta, to become great men & women. Elaborating in pure Hindi, he said, “Don’t become Ram but take 20 percent of his life and “Aap Aadmi se Insaan Ban Jaooge (You will change from normal to a good man)”. The occasion was Day-2 of 4th Convocation at Lovely Professional University for the graduates of batch-2014.
Seeing high-end usage of Information Technology at the university, President Purryag mentioned: “I am highly impressed by the way latest technology is being used at LPU and in India. This is appreciable as IT can really prove a great boon for higher education. Today, we have open and massive online courses to complement traditional ways of delivering education. Acquiring knowledge, skills and competencies are, therefore, no longer bound to time and space.”
Addressing students Mr Purryag appreciated all endeavours at LPU and mentioned; “When I started from Mauritius, I had not thought that I was to visit such a huge University. LPU definitely provides passport of bright future to its students. I want to mention that UK is churning students without values but India and specifically LPU is focusing on values and activities which are very important for students’ growth. Character determines how far a student has growth.” He strongly stressed that ‘Education is partnership between students, parents and university and students should maintain self-discipline.” President Purryag was humble enough in thanking all at LPU in pure Hindustani words “Shukriya ” for welcome he received.
President Purryag also interacted with Mauritian students studying at LPU and asked them to live as ambassadors of Mauritius at LPU and to serve as ambassadors of LPU while being in Mauritius after completion of their programs. In context to his visit made by LPU to important places in Jalandhar including Science City, Mr Purryag shared that he was happy to see that Punjab state of India has been promoting tourism with good spirit, especially for the young children to learn so much. Following the request of CM Punjab S Parkash Singh Badal, President Purryag also went to Meritorious School and praised the efforts of Punjab Government in consideration to enhance the skill-powers of state students.
LPU Convocation ceremony was telecasted live world-wide for millions of people and for LPU students settled at distant places including USA, UK, Canada and more. LPU students of batch 2014 who are working in large number in top cities including Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, Mumbai appreciated this effort of university which did not let them and their family members miss important day of their life.
Lovely Group Chairman Mr Ramesh Mittal, Vice Chairman Mr Naresh Mittal, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Ramesh Kanwar shared the convocation dais. LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal thanked President Purryag for his benevolence shown in motivating LPU management, students and staff members, on both days of the Convocation.
President Mr Rajkeswur awarded 14 Gold Medals and 164 Academic Excellence Honours to meritorious students. The students of the year 2014 batch who got degrees, today, on the second day of convocation included regular7450 national students, 398 international and 8024 distance education students.
Experience of First Lady of Mauritius at LPU: Mrs Aneetah Purryag also interacted with LPU gold medalists and invited them to her country. To be on their level she was humble in sharing that she is very fond of “Paani Poorie”. She also shared that she keeps on hunting to enjoy this sweet and sour taste even in her country.
