The Year 2015 proved to be an eventful and bountifully action-packed for Lovely Professional University as it witnessed more than 250 major events throughout the year at its campus, sometimes even simultaneous 3 to 4 on a single day. In the year 2015, top three leaders of the world including two heads of the states Prime Minister of Lesotho Kingdom Dr Pakalitha Bethuel Mosisili, President of Mauritius Rajkeswur Purryag, and Nobel Laureate for Peace & 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso of Tibet graced LPU Convocation Ceremonies. LPU was also honoured as these three influential leaders also accepted LPU’s Doctorate (Honoris Causa) Degrees. LPU also welcomed 70+ dignitaries at the campus. Celebrities like top bollywood stars Akshay Kumar & Jacqueline Fernandez, too, entertained and inspired LPU students. Ambassadors from six countries and eminent national personalities including Governors, Chief Ministers, MPs, TV Channel Head, UGC Chairman, 100+ Vice-Chancellors, Managing-Directors of big-houses also kept on visiting the campus that radiated LPU luster. In addition, coveted placements and entrepreneurship records, research endeavours, large number of Scopus publications, international collaborations, global-conferences held illustrate well that LPU is coming closer to its Vision-2025 swiftly.

Sharing the illustrious achievements made by Lovely Professional University within last 14 years, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal invoked all at LPU to continue working hard for betterment.  Taking illustrative examples of ever winning Formula-1 Race Car and Charlie Chaplin videos Mr Mittal addressed to 3000+ staff members: “Undoubtedly, LPU has made all amazed through its continuous strides in different endeavours be it research, publications, students’ placements, entrepreneurship, sports or more. The journey of LPU has been so remarkable that it has acquired the stature of the largest university of India. I am proud to share that Presidents of four countries visited LPU as Chief Guests on different occasions, in addition to 71 other top national and international personalities to motivate and bless LPU students. Although LPU has achieved a lot, yet the present time is to go for “Pit-Stop” for continuing LPU growth more efficiently.” Continuing he said: “We have to strive together and should plan and take advancement in our own individual areas, as we have to see LPU get included among top 200 universities of the world by the year 2025. I consider that a system cannot be fixed by one person. Both of its people & processes can make a system run efficiently.”

United Nations Model Conference (IGNMUN) inaugurated at LPU with 1000 Participants

Since the United Nations (UN) was founded, it has achieved significant milestones and allowed nations across globe to increase international co-operation and resolve many potential conflicts. To involve youth in this important body of the world and to let it know the significance of United Nations a model United Nations conference has been planned. The aim here is also to encourage individuals who are interested in ideating and debating on key national and global issues. To promote the same, three-day Indira Gandhi National Model United Nations Conference (IGNMUN)-Jalandhar Chapter was inaugurated today at Lovely Professional University. Patron of IGNMUN and former Chief Minister of New Delhi Smt Shiela Dikshit commenced the inaugural session of the conference.
On this inaugural ceremony, former Union Home Minister & former Governor of Punjab Shri Shivraj Patil was the Chief Guest and former Chief Minister Punjab Smt Rajinder Kaur Bhattal was the Guest of Honour. LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro-Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal also shared the dais along with. Founder Chairman of IGNMUN Jalandhar Chapter Mr Gautam Seth, President Abhimanyu & Secretary General Shauryaa Shoor convened the conference.
During IGNMUN, each delegate is to take part in a simulation of the United Nations or another body and gain better insight into the subtleties of international affairs. LPU is collaborating for conduction of the conference at its different venues of the campus up to 28th December 2015. More than 1000 participants are attending the conference.

On the second day of three-day Indira Gandhi National Model United Nations Conference (IGNMUN)-Jalandhar Chapter organized at Lovely Professional University; Student-Delegates from top 80 Institutions from across country discussed vital global issues. More than 1000 participating students Represented different countries, global leaders, sections of society to find out solutions to problems being faced nationally and internationally. For this, Eleven world level committees including United Nations General Assembly, Commission on the Status of Women, United Nations Human Rights Council, Indo- Pak Bilateral Meet, Rajya Sabha were simulated. Agendas like Impact of Gender based violence, increasing intolerance pan India, Situation in Syria and Iraq, Right to Privacy, Banning commercial advertisement on Face-book and more were put forward. Students from Doon School and other top schools of Pune, Bangalore, Mumbai, New Delhi, Chandigarh and more participated actively.

LPU Faculty honoured with ‘Glory of India Award’

Lovely Professional University Assistant Professor Dr Vinod Kumar from the School of Arts & Languages has been bestowed with ‘Glory of India Award for Education Excellence’. The Economic Growth Society of India awarded Dr Vinod in recognition of his sterling merit, excellence, performance and outstanding contribution for the nation and the globe. The award ceremony was held during national seminar on ‘Individual Growth and Social Development’ at Hotel Taj Vivanta, Panaji, Goa. Out of a total 150+ people considered for awards only 22 educationists from across India were chosen. Presently, Dr Vinod is providing research guidance to LPU’s Ph D and M Phil students. LPU Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal congratulated Dr Vinod on his first-rate achievement and encouraged him to continue devoting himself for the betterment of education and the society.

LPU organized On-Campus Personal Contact Program for its Distance Education students

Lovely Professional University organized Personal Contact Program (PCP) for its Distance Education (DE) students at university campus. Based on the online registration of the students, university planned and conducted PCP classes in the disciplines of Management, Computer Applications, Information Technology, Computer Science, Commerce, Library & Information Sciences and Arts. Classes pertaining to 170 courses were engaged by more than 100 LPU faculty members.
Thousands of students from towns, cities and remote villages of Punjab including Ludhiana, Batala, Amritsar, Patiala,  Bassi Pathana, Tanda Urmar, Bathinda,  Banga, Budhlada, Moga, Sahnewal, Raikot, Sunam, Anandpur Sahib, Mohali, Pathankot and more interacted with subject-expert faculty members of LPU for face to face academic counseling sessions.

Keeping in view the floral business booms globe across, the School of Agriculture of Lovely Professional University organized Chrysanthemum Floral Exhibition to inspire students towards production of exotic flower varieties like national flower of Japan-Chrysanthemum.  For this, 55 varieties of Chrysanthemum were collected from across the country and displayed in 2000+ pots at the campus.  This arrangement was in special for B.Sc 4th year students under Rural Agriculture Works Experience (RAWE) program of the university. With Korean single and double flowers, it was well exhibited and explained that Chrysanthemum is an indoor variety that has a very low maintenance requirement. These come in a variety of colours and are available in abundance in a much demanded season when no other flowers bloom. The exhibition was inaugurated by British Member of Parliament Mr Virendra Sharma of Ealing Southall Parliament constituency of the United Kingdom. Illustrative, as per a report by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham), the floriculture industry in India is fast growing at 30-40 percent year on year in to many billions of rupees.

LPU NSS Volunteer to join National Republic Day Parade-2016 in New Delhi

One of the National Service Scheme (NSS) students of Lovely Professional University, Nidhi Nayan has been selected to participate in the ceremonial National Republic Day Parade- 2016 to be held at India Gate in New Delhi. It is indeed great national honour for this B.Tech EEE 3rd year LPU student as she will parade in dignity before the President, Prime Minister of India and other top national & international personalities. In the toughest competition, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, has selected her from lakhs of NSS student-volunteers from 5-zones across India. Nidhi has been selected keeping in view her overall performance for parade, cultural activities, proficiency to participate in debate on different social issues, and ability to depict the culture of her state. Harvard University Professor motivated LPU Scientists to research on Personalized Medicines

The School of Biotechnology & Biosciences of Lovely Professional University conducted interactive session on ‘System Biology and Personalized Medicine’ for LPU students and faculty-members. Renowned Bio-Informatician from Harvard Medical School (Boston) USA, Dr Manoj K Bhasin reached LPU Campus for this great research boosting expedition to ultimately improve the human condition. His lecture motivated LPU scientists to research in the area of personalized medicine which is an ability to modify treatments for the unique characteristics of each cancer patient in particular. It is being understood world over that personalized medicines provide better treatments and fewer side effects, in comparison to traditional treatment through radiotherapy & chemotherapy. Dr Manoj also addressed researchers at PGI (Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research) Chandigarh.

‘Oberoi Group’ selected LPU Hotel Management Students

Bridging gap between academia and industry, the Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development (OCLD) of Oberoi Hotels & Resorts Group joined hands with Lovely Professional University to conduct its recruitment test for selection of human resource from Punjab. Organized first time at LPU Campus, OCLD test declared 8 LPU students successful among a total of 12 selected from Punjab. More than 250 students had appeared for the test from 10 Institutions of Punjab including PCTE Ludhiana, DBU Mandi Gobindgarh, GNA, CT, Doaba College Jalandhar and more. LPU students will join their duties as Guest Service Associates in different service sectors of the Group at handsome salary package after completion of their programs in June 2016. Four more LPU students have also been selected for training initiatives within the Group’s different endeavours.
