Premiered at 20th edition of Busan International Film Festival, held annually in South Korea, Hindi Movie Zubaan’s star Cast- Vicky Kaushal, Sarah-Jane Dias and director Mozez Singh reached Lovely Professional University Campus. Internationally acclaimed bollywood stars interacted specially with LPU students of Journalism & Film Production; Multi-Media & Animation; and Fashion Technology programs. Visiting actors also performed on LPU stage for the entertainment of multitude of international and national students at the University, and enthralled them to the core. Students enjoyed each and every bit of their performances and kept singing, dancing, yelling along with them. LPU students enjoyed their acts on new songs ‘Ajj Saanu O Mileya’ (the Anthem of Dreams) and After Music is my heart and more.

The youngest Prime Minister of the world, Mr Roosevelt Skerrit of the Commonwealth of Dominica (North America) chaired the 6th Convocation of Lovely Professional University, today. The convocation was held at Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium of the university where PM Skerrit honoured gold medalists and toppers of various LPU academic programs of 2015 batch. In all, 7810 regular, distance education & part-time students of 2015 batch received degrees and diplomas. LPU also proudly conferred its ‘Honoris Causa’ Doctor of Letters degree upon PM Skerrit for his dynamism, farsightedness and his being innovative leader. This honour is also in recognition of his sincere desire to build international harmony among nations and for his outstanding public services and excellent governance. 

LPU School of Agriculture organizing two-day Flower Show & Competition

The School of Agriculture of Lovely Professional University has been able to grow a wide and rare variety of flowers as part of students’ academic projects and research works. The School of Agriculture has now come forward to involve various other educational and allied sectors of Jalandhar region to showcase and share this rare achievement with them by inaugurating two-day Flower Show & Competition at University Campus, today.  The show is organized under 9 classes and 97 sections to accommodate incredible variety of flowers including Aster, Calendula, Dianthus, Nemesia, Phlox, Asparagus, Ferns and more. Competitions include flower arrangement; crotons, cut-flowers showcase, flower-ornaments, Bonsai, pot arrangement, landscape and more. Schools, colleges, amateurs, government, semi-government horticulture departments, private institutions, nurseries and individuals are hugely participating. More than one thousand species are being showcased. Agriculture Industry, Nurseries, Self Help Groups are training students and visiting people about seeds, gardening skills, agricultural tools, poly houses and irrigation methods. Hundreds of prizes will be distributed to the winners under different competitive titles on the concluding day of the show i.e. 21st February, 2016.

LPU wins All India Inter-University Softball (Men) Championship as well

After recording marvelous national win for Association of Indian Universities’ Softball women championship; Lovely Professional University sportsmen also added to this glory by lifting All India Inter-University Softball (Men) Championship trophy.  LPU made this win by defeating University of Calicut Kerala, Punjab University Chandigarh and Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University Maharashtra, in respective league matches.  LPU team topped with 6 points by winning all the three league matches with 2 scores each. Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University (SGBAU) Maharashtra got second position with 4 points by winning 2 matches; and, Punjab University Chandigarh & University of Calicut Kerala both remained third with 1 Point each on playing a draw against each other. Chief Guest of the Final Day, LPU Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal handed over the scintillating trophy to Championship winning team. General Secretary Punjab Softball Federation Mr PN Passi and National Umpire from Maharashtra Mr Mukul Deshpandey were also present.

World famous wrestler “Khali” interacted with LPU students

King of wrestling across the world, the “Great Khali” reached Lovely Professional University. Students gathered around Khali like “Lilliputs” and Khali shared his world level experiences with them. Looking at the body built of Khali, students compared their own body measurements with towering built up of globally renowned Khali.

LPU lifted All India Inter University Softball (Women) Championship Trophy

Lovely Professional University sportswomen have won All India Inter University Softball (W) Championship 2015-16 by defeating strong contenders in league matches- Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar & Punjabi University Patiala and drawn another match with Punjab University Chandigarh.  LPU topped the league with 5 points by winning 2 matches with 2 scores each and a draw for one score. Punjab University Chandigarh got second position with 3 points; and, GNDU Amritsar & Punjabi University Patiala remained third with 2 Points each. Chief Guest of the Final Day of Championship, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal handed over the glittering trophy to Championship winners. Internationally-acclaimed Flautist Sameer Rao’s Harmonies enthralled LPU Students

Celebrated flautist Sameer Rao reached LPU campus today and mesmerized Lovely Professional University students through his wonder-struck harmonies inside the densely packed Shrimati Shantidevi Mittal auditorium of the university. Devoted disciple of world-wide famous Pandit Hari Parsad Chaurasia and first grade flautist of All India Radio (AIR), Rao has been honoured with many national and international honours for his artistry. Rao was accompanied by famous Tabla player Adarsh Shinoy and great musician Lakshmi Raga Rao. When the trio reached LPU Campus, LPU Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal greeted them. Rao made students enjoy many ‘Raag’ on flute including evening Raag Madhuvanti, Marva, Miyan Kee Malhar, Durgaa, Mishr in the best company of rhythmic pats (thaaps) on Tabla and pulls at Sitar. Through these Raags Rao let students understand different low, high, delicate and medium types of sounds oozing out of a flute.

Lovely Professional University students’ team from programs of B.Sc Agriculture, B.Sc Forestry, B.Tech Civil Engineering has won 1st Runner-up Award in Inter University National Competition on Water Resources Management, held at TERI in New Delhi. Being highly appreciated by both masses and the judges in unison, LPU students are declared as Youth Ambassadors of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s passionate clean India mission, commonly called as ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA)’. Students have also received cash prize of Rs one lakh, paid internship for six months and coveted offer of free education for post graduation.  LPU students are awarded for their live project on floating Island approach for sustainable development of ‘Kanjli wetland’ lying in district Kapurthala of Punjab. In all, 75 teams from across India had competed for 18 months’ long different level competition-as a clarion call to lead in solving India’s water problems. Students from institutions like NIT, DTU, TISS of different states including West Bengal, Assam, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, Punjab and more presented "action-oriented, practicable and community participative proposals” to address water and sanitation problems in their respective regions.

Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) Vice-Chancellor visited LPU

Vice-Chancellor of Royal University of Bhutan, Dasho Nidup Dorji visited Lovely Professional University today.  LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal and Director of International affairs Mr Aman Mittal greeted Mr Dorji on his maiden visit to the campus. This visit is the most momentous as His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan, is RUB Chancellor also.  Visiting VC was taken to different departments of LPU where he interacted with hundreds of Bhutanese students studying at LPU. Illustrative, near 400 Bhutanese students from across all regions of Bhutan are studying at LPU in a wide range of programs. VC Dorji was happy to note that Bhutanese students encompass great opportunities at LPU. Almost all of students partake in activities from study of their programs & community service to national and international level extracurricular activities.

This VC visit is indicative of possible collaboration between LPU and RUB in near future. For collaboration various detailed programs will be chalked out to strengthen higher education system in Bhutan and mutual relationship between the two. The collaborative programs are to include mutual faculty exchange and training of faculty members of various top colleges in Bhutan. This alliance will also be in the areas of student exchange and internship programs for students and faculty. In fact, RUB also maintains association with other universities of the world including University of New Brunswick in Canada; Naropa University & School for International Training in the US; University of Salzburg in Austria; and others. LPU, too, has all salient features of collaborative programs which other international universities possess.

Appreciating the international level functioning in all spheres at LPU, VC Dorji also shared RUB working pattern and the further requirements on these lines. RUB is the national university system to manage tertiary education in Bhutan; however, he also shared his concern about unemployment as one of the key challenges in education in Bhutan. He informed that colleges under RUB are scattered all over Bhutan for a purpose of fostering regional and balance economic development, and the need is great channelization. LPU Chancellor Mr Mittal assured VC Dorji to be through all thick and thin with RUB for propagation of results oriented quality education on needs.

LPU Pharmaceutical Sciences Department Signs MoU to Promote Ayurvedic Products across Globe

The School of Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Sciences of Lovely Professional University and one of the leading ayurvedic pharma companies Shree Dhanwantri Herbals have collaborated to produce and promote ayurvedic products not only in India but across the globe also. The said pharma company is already producing and exporting dozens of herbal and ayurvedic medicines in many countries. For collaborative approach, LPU researchers will frame out a literature for the promotion of Ayurvedic products, as it has been greatly realized that ayurvedic medicines are reliable alternative to prevalent modern day medicines for their efficacy. This tie-up is also to strengthen up academia industry relations. Memorandum of Understanding is signed by Managing Director of Shree Dhanwantri Herbals Dr J P Singh and LPU Sr Dean Dr Monica Gulati. Director General Er HR Singla was also present on the occasion.

Thanking Dr Singh for reposing faith in the hard research works of LPU students and faculty members, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal informed: “Under this collaboration, LPU students will pursue important research projects to further enhance acceptability of herbal, ayurvedic and nutraceutical products, as aloe-vera has already been identified and accepted globe over. LPU students will also create a literature in this regard for bringing awakening and awareness among people world around for the great utility of age old ayurvedic implementations of India in the field of health sector. On these lines, a lot of achievements have been made at LPU Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, and our students have researched hard for producing alternative medicines to cure and curb diabetes and even cancer.” Mr Mittal added that as per the needs of global society and Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), LPU students and faculty members have already researched together to get many patents applied and published thereof.

Dr Singh shared: “This collaboration is very important as a huge demand of research oriented students in Ayurvedic Pharmacy is now being greatly realized. There are more than 9000 ayurvedic companies in India and demand of ayurvedic products is increasing day by day not only in India but all across the world.  We realize that for the preparation and development of quality herbal formulations, there should be effective academia-Industry interface to promote strenuous research in the direction. I am sure this tie-up will result in development of efficacious, safe, cost effective and elegant ayurvedic medicines.”
