Third Day of Theatre Festival at LPU depicts human frailties, obsession with materialistic possessions

At Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium in LPU campus, the Abhinaya RangManch, Hisar staged a Hindi play ‘Patloon’ before a large audience on day third of the ongoing theatre festival. Written and directed by a renowned theatre artist Manish Joshi Bismil, the play highlights the unfulfilled desires of a person and how he struggles to reach the motive to satiate his unusual desires. The play with highly sensitive portrayal of the plight of the cobbler proves beyond doubt that the human mind is obsessive by nature. Bohemians Theatre Pupils Association is also coordinating in the festival.
The play begins with introducing ‘Bhagwan’, the protagonist of the play. Bhagwan is a bonded labour but somehow he escapes and reaches a city where he decides to earn on his own. In the city, he becomes a shoe-shine. While polishing the shoes, he used to stain the pants of his customers with the boot polish. His angered customers used to curse him.  They shouted at Bhagwan and told him that a pant means a lot for a person as it is a ‘status symbol’ and is a possession of which the owner is proud of. Listening to this, Bhagwan decides that he will also buy a pant. He finds out that a pair of pants costs Rs 1500 and he begins to save for it. He is able to save Rs 500 but a tricky magician befools him and takes away his savings. Even at this Bhagwan does not lose hope but works harder to be able to get himself a pairs of pants. After many comic and heart touching episodes, Bhagwan is able to buy a pair of pants.

On the second day of six-day theatre festival “Natya Mahotsav” at Lovely Professional University, hundreds of theatre loving LPU students witnessed enactment of play “Kis Thaag Ne Luteya Shehar Mera” by Manch Rangmanch Group of Amritsar. This Punjabi play ‘Kis Thag Ne Luteya Shehar Mera’ is conceived designed and directed by world renowned theater maestro Kewal Dhaliwal. The play presented how human life has become a victim of roaring and competitive business market, which only has shiny power of money. All the characters of the play exhibited how middle class is becoming the victim of such a out of control competition, which leads to sufferings and hardships. 

LPU Scientist’s Anti-Cancer Drug Design is among World's Top 3 Proposals in German Competition

Lovely Professional University (LPU) Scientist, Dr Surendra Nayak, has won global accolades at the Spring Challenge-2016 of Bio-SolveIT, Germany.  Faculty member at LPU School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dr Nayak’s anti-cancer drug design proposal has been pronounced among world's top 3 proposals. Highlighting, Dr Nayak’s forwarding has been selected from 10,000 + other proposals received from across the world. Two other top proposals are from the prestigious institutions of Italy and Germany. Now, Bio-Solve IT has further provided scientifically recognized ‘Drug Design’ software package, for one year, to further support and strengthen this research output. LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal congratulated Dr Nayak and wished him to be ever globally winner in his further researches.

September 22, 2016 can prove to be a historical day for Lovely Professional University when one of its alumni Hansjeet Singh Duggal’s artistry is anticipated to be winner at 43rd Student Academy Awards. These awards are commonly known as ‘Student Oscars’.  A graduate of LPU School of Business, and presently a qualified Visual-effects (VFS) artist, Hansjeet has provided visual effects to two nominated films for academy awards. One of these films is a documentary and the other narrative, both of which are thought provoking and artful works. The award presentation will be held at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California. LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal wishes him all the best to come out in flying colours at the award ceremony.

Punjab Boys & MP Girls became Champions at LPU hosted 34th Junior National (M/W) Softball Championship-2016

34th Junior National (Men/Women) Softball Championship-2016 concluded at the host Lovely Professional University’s four playgrounds. Punjab Boys & Madhya Pradesh Girls became Champions in their respective categories by exhibiting the best of spirited hitting, catching, running and pitching skills of the game. Delhi Girls and Chhattisgarh Boys remained at 2nd Place; whereas, Chandigarh Girls and Haryana Boys got 3rd Place. Chief Guest of the closing ceremony was LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, who gave away the Winner and Runner-up Trophies, Medals, Certificates and Prizes to the concerned players, officials, co-ordinators and other participants. Guest of Honour MLA Punjab & President Softball Association of India Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi, Secretary General Dr Pravin Anaokar & Punjab Softball Association Secretary General Mr P N Passi accompanied Mr Mittal. 700+ players from 50 teams of boys & girls, 100 coaches, 50 members of the softball associations and 50 other officials, from across India participated in different league, super league, and final competitions. Some of the enthusiastic softball players from Nepal had also been at the Championship to learn the skills of the game to further promote it in their country. These members were also honoured with the sports-kit of the game.

Indian Cricket Team Skipper Mahender Singh Dhoni reached Lovely Professional University campus, today, and interacted with university students. As he reached the campus, LPU students kept on chanting “Dhoni…Dhoni…Dhoni” and greeted him with yells, shouts, shrieks, claps and stamps. Dhoni made an entry on the stage amid traditional Punjabi welcome under “thaaps” of Dhols and Bhangra steps. National award winning bollywood director Neeraj Pandey also accompanied Dhoni.  Famous among cricket fans as ‘Captain Cool’, ‘Mahi’ and more, Dhoni interacted with LPU students and shared inspiring episodes and experiences from his career started as a railway ticket collector to an ace cricket captain. Making LPU as the first place in India, Captain Dhoni also released the trailer of his upcoming bio-graphical movie ‘MS Dhoni-The Untold Story’. The film is based on the life of Captain Dhoni and features Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead role as Dhoni; whereas, actress  Kiara Advani as Dhoni’s wife Sakshi Dhoni.

Indian Cricket Team Skipper Mahender Singh Dhoni is reaching Lovely Professional University on 10th August 2016. Famous among cricket fans as ‘Captain Cool’, the Indian Skipper will motivate thousands of new students at LPU by sharing inspiring episodes and experiences from his illustrious life. Both the university and the Indian skipper want that money should not be a constraint for good sports-persons of the country in getting quality education. On this occasion, Bollywood Director Neeraj Pandey and Actor Sushant Rajput, who is playing lead role in a biopic on Dhoni, will also accompany Dhoni and speak to LPU students.

Lovely Professional University has set last date of admissions to all of its programs as 10th August 2016. There will be no extension to this date in any case. This year, the last date of admissions for all education programmes is also 10th August.  LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal informs: “At LPU we nurture brilliance, so all aspiring students still have a chance to become a part of excellence prevailing at LPU. There will be no extension to the last date of admissions as stipulated earlier. This year, 1600+ students with 90% & higher marks have joined LPU. Thousands of students from all 29 states of India including far off Karnataka, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and North East have joined in this session. Similarly, hundreds of other new students have joined from 50+ countries.”

Lovely Professional University has set last date of admission for all programs as 10th August 2016.   This year admission at LPU saw many new advancements including conduction of its own admission test ‘LPU NEST’. All of the students who applied for LPU BTech and Honours Programs had to clear the test before joining LPU.Understanding that students from across India join LPU programs, the university this year made 120 test centers across India and tied up with global testing centre ‘Pearson’ for the conduction of the test. LPU BTech Programs saw the most preference over all the programs. One of the major reasons has been the strong placement record of the university in BTech. It has set a new record in placement in North India as 799 students were selected in a single day. In addition, more popular programs remained MBA, BBA, BCom, BArch, BPharmacy, Fashion Design, Agriculture, Physiotherapy and more. Interestingly, BA and other humanities’ programs at UG and PG level too remained very strong in demand. This year, LPU also lifted AIU National Trophy by beating even GNDU Amritsar and Punjab University Chandigarh. This year LPU has also collaborated with Google, SAP, Oracle and more for prestigious certification programs as part of the syllabus.
