Under yearlong state level celebrations for commemorating 125th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr B R Ambedkar, a detailed program has been chalked out as per the guidance of Hon’ble Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Parkash Singh Badal. In this context, 3rd National Seminar on the topic ‘Dr BR Ambedkar & Media’ was organized at Lovely Professional University to memorialize the ideology of nation’s most inspirational leader. Prominent among who attended the inaugural celebrative session included His Excellency Governor Governor (Himachal Pradesh) Sh Acharya Devrat as Chief Guest; Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment (Govt of India) Sh Vijay Sampla as Guest of Honour; and Punjab Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr Charanjit
Singh Atwal who presided over the function.
Highlighting the illustrious contributions of Babasaheb not only to India but world also, HE Governor Devrat said: “Babasaheb was a great man because, unlike common men, he carved out new roads for people and also made people tread on those. He had a strong power of pen and made all feel that all persons on this earth are alike and have to work together to take the country and its culture ahead.” HE Governor also inspired LPU students by informing how like Babasaheb, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Abraham Lincoln and Dhirubhai Ambani utilized education and hard-work to lead others. Minister Sampla illustrated that Dr Ambedkar kept on serving the global society till his last breath. That is why even countries like the UK and USA hold Babasaheb in high esteems. Mr Atwal highlighted how Babasaheb always laid emphasis on right to education.
Other distinguished guests were Minister (Punjab Government) S Sohan Singh Thandal, MLA Phagwara Sh Som Parkash, MLA Adampur Sh Pawan Kumar Tinu, MLA Kartarpur Sardar Sarwan Singh Phillaur, Lovely Group Chairman Mr Ramesh Mittal, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal and Pro Chancellor Ms Rashmi Mittal. Chairman, Punjab SC Commission Sh Rajesh Bagha presented vote of thanks; whereas, Convener of Punjab Government Committee S Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal conducted the event. LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal welcomed the elite gathering and thanked CM Punjab for making LPU privileged in hosting mammoth commemoration. Mr Mittal invoked all to implement the sayings and doings of Babasaheb for the welfare of humanity instead of keeping these in books.
Academic Session was presided over by Prof BA Chopade, Vice Chancellor, Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad (Maharashtra). Session address was made by Sh Dalip Mundal, Thinker. Resource Persons were Dr Manmohan Singh (IPS), Writer and Thinker and Ms Munisha Pandey, Editor, India Today. Valedictory address was made by Sh Puran Meshram Registrar, Nagpur University and Moderator of the session was Sh Des Raj Kali, Writer and Thinker.
Illustrative, Punjab Government has chalked this commemorative program in a big way through its special convening committee. For this, five Government universities and only one private university (LPU) in the state are selected to organize a series of seminars and academic discussions based on the life history of great legend, Dr Ambedkar.
