On the fifth day of six-day theatre festival “Natya Mahotsav” being held at Lovely Professional University, the artists of Roopak Kala Manch ( Mohali) enacted Punjabi play “ Maut Di Teesi”. The play sent a great message to the youth to be ever willing to try things and never give up too soon. The play has been translated from Konkani into Punjabi by Dr Atamjit and directed by Sangeeta Gupta.
The play is about the loneliness and disillusionment experienced by a young man who gets routed in his professional and personal life. Eventually, he tries to find a solution to commit suicide, an easy seeming process that seems to be plaguing the entire young generation. Director Gupta shared: "Our message is that there are no shortcuts. One has to work hard, be committed, and to nurture desire slowly but surely."
As per the story of the play, a boy ‘Sarvesh’ who has lost all hope from life finds himself failing at every front. He comes across a newspaper advertisement which claims to find a solution to any problem in the world. The boy readily goes and shares all his troubles with him, and he in turn ends up giving him a rather strange solution. Sarvesh disagrees at first but eventually gives in. This is the turning point of the entire story and from here, it reaches a sensational peak. Sarvesh jumps into a river to die but somehow comes out alive. Now, he is a firm man and admits: “I have learnt to live through struggling waves and fish in the river.”
The last and sixth play to be staged at LPU on 2nd September is “Udhara Pati” by the artists of Sarthak Rangmanch Patiala.
