  • Festival was organized in alliance with theatre’s pupil association ‘Bohemians’

The last day of six-day theatre festival “Natya Mahotsav” at Lovely Professional University witnessed the staging of situational Punjabi comedy play “Udhara Pati”.  Presented by Saarthak Rang Manch, Patiala, the play was directed by Dr Lakha Lehiri. Staged as a situational comedy, the play laid stress on the importance of “truth” and as an ethical set of laws for life. The Punjabi adaptation of the play is from original Mararthi play “Usna Navra”. It showcased the middle class situation existing in the region.
The play takes the issue of love marriage where the central character, Pammi, tries to uphold her false prestige. She boasts of her “rich” family status with all amenities and servants around her.  To maintain her false image, she goes on adding more and more lies. Even her real husband has to be projected as a family cook; whereas, her family guest as her duplicate husband. This all creates humorous situation, resulting in roars of laughter for and from the student audience. During staging
of the play, all the characters duly supported each other to bring forth the best effects as per the story.

LPU Director General Er HR Singla congratulated all the artistes and persons at the helm of affairs of six theatre groups, which sent great messages to LPU students in one or the other form. Er Singla also thanked Theatre’s Pupil Association ‘Bohemians’ which played an important role in bringing different groups to the university.
