3rd Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Conference organized at LPU


  • Conference had one to one interaction between persons affected with spinal cord injury and experts from related fields 
  • Conference also sensitized society and different agencies to adopt stringent measures in preventing such injuries to happen

  • Named as ‘Vistaar’ the conference was organized jointly by ‘Spinal Cord Injury Association (SCIA)’  and  LPU


In association with Lovely Professional University, ‘Spinal Cord Injury Association (SCIA)’ organized 3rd Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Conference ‘Vistaar’ at Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium in LPU Campus.  Different sessions of the conference sensitized society and different agencies to adopt stringent measures in preventing such injuries to happen. Near 200 persons with spine-injuries, even from far off cities including Hyderabad, Mumbai, assembled at the campus. All of them had one to one interaction with experts from related fields for befitting solutions and suggestions to their existing problems. On this occasion, 15 wheelchairs were distributed to the affected ones to make them live active life of mobility and self-dependence.  Illustrious personalities who came forward to help the event include Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla, MLAs of Jalandhar Cantt and Jalandhar constituencies S Pargat Singh, Sh Rajinder Beri, Sh Sushil Rinku, Sh Bawa Henry, IG Zonal Arpit Shukla, Commissioner Police (Jalandhar) Parveen Sinha, Deputy Commissioner (Jalandhar) Varinder Sharma, Deputy Director, SCERT, (Education Department) Mrs. Shruti Shukla. Many other Civil Officers, Doctors, NGOs participated actively along with 200 NSS volunteers of LPU to make the event a success.

LPU School of Mechanical Engineering organized International Conference

Lovely Professional University’s Mechanical Engineering department organized the INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON RECENT ADVANCES IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING (ICRAME) on April 14 and 15, 2017. The Chief Guest in the event was the honorable Chancellor of Lovely Professional University, Mr. Ashok Mittal. In this  conference 132 research papers were submitted not only from India but also countries like  France. 

LPU Student’s Research to make Super-Material in place of Iron

  • Research will help in production of unbreakable Ceramic Tiles for Kitchen & Bathroom
  • Raj’s research will also guide in having nanoporous air & water-filters
  • Research will bring forth super strong fibers as body and vehicle armour
  • Plastics will be able to conduct electricity

  • The topic of his research paper is improvement upon bonding strength in the atoms of Carbon Nano Tubes (CNT)
  • CNTs are  about 10,000 times smaller than a human hair
One of the research-oriented and hardworking students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Lovely Professional University, Raj Chawla has received world- wide acclamation for his research on “carbon nano-tube (CNT)”, which is about 10,000 times smaller than a human hair. As CNTs are unique because the bonding between their atoms is very strong, so Raj’s research will guide in having stronger and unbreakable ceramic tiles & plastics; nano-porous air & water-filters; super strong fibers as body and vehicle armour; biocompatible coatings for prosthetics; and, many more cost-effective materials.  The world will also be able to manufacture lighter and stronger materials for greener aircrafts. It is worth mentioning that in comparison to other research scholars of the world  called for their research works, LPU student is still an under graduate and has earned  strong impact factor of 3.897 for his research endeavour.

India’s largest integrated power company Tata Power of Tata Group and Lovely Professional University (Punjab) have associated for Corporate Social Responsibility. Presently, 1600+ LPU volunteers are strengthening Tata Power’s largest ‘Conservation Movement’ in the country. Termed as “Fish Knights”, LPU volunteers are now to conserve & rehabilitate endangered fish species “Mahseer” in the country.  It pertains to the survival of the magnificent & valuable Mahseer, one of the 20 mega fishes of the world. This volunteering noble cause is second to massive “Save Tiger” CSR campaign in the country. Feeling enthralled on students’ deep interest in the noble activities, LPU Chancellor Mr. Ashok Mittal blessed students to be always awakened and rise to the occasion to help society for common causes. 

CEO & MD Tata Power Anil Sardana holds: “The survival of the magnificent Mahseer is important towards preserving the eco-system. We are extremely happy that the students and faculty members of Lovely Professional University have joined us in this national movement to conserve and rehabilitate this species of fish.  Through its CSR project ‘Act for Mahseer! Pledge’, Tata Power has provided students an opportunity to join the movement and make a difference through their individual efforts.” 
In fact, this pledge programme is aimed at spreading awareness about the mighty Mahseer. As part of the programme all the registered fish knights will pledge to spread awareness about the campaign and its importance, take active part in Mahseer rehabilitation, and protect Mahseer by preventing water pollution and protecting natural water bodies. Presently, 1600+ “fish knights” of LPU have registered to take a pledge to save the Mahseer. 

One of the LPU volunteers Raman who hails from Assam shares: “We all students at LPU are deeply concerned about Mahseer fish as it is endangered species on IUCN (the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources) Red List. Out of the 47 species of Mahseer that exist in the world, India is home to fifteen. These inhabit the Himalayan foothills, the Indus, Ganga and Brahmaputra basins and are also found down south in the Cauvery, Kosi and other rivers.  LPU students hail from all of these areas in large number and know well that these are commercially important game fish and highly esteemed food fish. These are also potential species for increasing aquaculture, as have also been introduced in lakes and occurs in large reservoirs. So, we all at LPU feel that it is our prime duty to save the species on priority basis which means much to us all.”

LPU preparing its Girl-Students as Ambassadors of Self-Protection


  • Internationally acclaimed trainer from Tata Group is training the students

Under corporate social responsibility Lovely Professional University is organizing ‘Self-Defense Training’ workshop at LPU Campus for all of its female students and staff-members. For this, LPU’s School of Professional Enhancement has arranged different sessions to be addressed and demonstrated by an internationally reputed trainer Shri Rajendran Nair of Tata Group. Mr Nair is credited with training 3 lakh women of the country, including women cops of Mumbai Police and other forces. After only an hour’s training at LPU, girl-students are seen turned into solid symbols of confidence & aggression against their oppressors. Addressing the students in very cordial, interesting and amusing manner on grave situations, Mr Nair guided all of them to develop self-esteem by building high-level of self confidence within. Mr Nair advised students to live a fearless life by having full control on their hearts and minds.
